I rate Richardson but f**k me he doesn't deserve a gig in the test squad just yet. Few blokes can consider themselves very lucky.

Doesn't matter though the SA quicks will make light work of our batsman and I find it hard to see us winning a test.

Richardson might be good in a few years, but how about making him earn a test squad inclusions first? Half a dozen first class games, no first class 5w haul and an economy over 3rpo.. i'm just shaking my head in disbelief.

Especially because we're about to be dismantled by Vernon Philander. Sayers is our own version. A bowler who can exploit whatever assistance a pitch offers. The fact that he offers something different to Starc, Hazelwood and Cummins is exactly why he should be in the squad. Instead we just want our cookie cutter back ups - Bird for Hazewlood, Richardson for Cummins.

Surely the SAF pitches would be to his absolute liking!!

Bancroft, Holland and Richardson very lucky

The way Philander has been moving the ball in the first two Tests against India would indicate Sayers would have loved conditions over there.

Plus Indian pace bowlers have been taking wickets also, that never happens!!!!

A fair point, Shami was moving the ball all over the place.

Agree, don't rate this bloke at all...what the hell has Sayers done wrong? Bird was shit in the Melbourne test also.

Shield :

Bird 25 @ 16 @ 2.69RPO
Sayers 17 @ 24 @ 2.82RPO

In the game that sayers had to sit out for and Bird allowed to play at the Adelaide Oval, Bird took 5-30 and 3-51. You have to wonder what Chadd would have done in that game himself

I said at the time that that inept Redbacks batting display had played Chadd out of the test team

This decision makes sense, if Agar was to play it would have been with Lyon at the expense of M Marsh most likely or maybe Cummins. As Agar can bat a this favoured him.

No way they will ever need to play 2 Spinners in SA & Hollond is better than Agar I think we could all agree on. Hollond will only play if Lyon's injured.

Did you see the last test v India in SA? Spinners paradise.

That was at Centurion and none of the four tests against South Africa are scheduled at that ground. The four tests are at Durban, Port Elizabeth, Newlands (which was a green top for the first test against India) and Wanderers, which is where the 3rd test is played starting this week. I doubt the South Africans will be serving up anything that turns.

Agree, speaks absolute tripe!! Sayers speaking to Kane Cornes and Blighty tonight did not hold back, wonder if the selectors will not be impressed by his spit.

He made some good points though, how they can pick a kid who has played 5 games over him, bit of a joke.

Should start resigning ourselves to the fact that Sayers will never play test cricket for Australia.

Not sure which selectors wife he has screwed, but if a no name in Richardson gets selected ahead of him without even so much as a phone call to explain why- then the writing is on the wall.

Agree!!!

When your a selector (potentially even a paid one) part of your job is to keep those not selected motivated

Surely it wouldn't be too hard to make 3-4 phone calls to those who were very close and missed out, or those who were dropped from the squad

Given the ability of batsmen to play the moving ball these days, you'd think a bowler who could do that would have a chance of taking some wickets, wouldn't you?

Under this regime, Terry Alderman would never have got one shot, let alone two shots at a Test career.

If Vernon Philander was Australian he would still be waiting for his test debut

How long since he's played a game. Is he playing t20?
Reward for effort, all the selectors roll with that one.
Not seeing any reward for sayers. Shabby treatment and I expect a lot better from the chairman of selectors.

I have a feeling Boof has a fair bit to do with this one, in a lot of his interviews he talks about ability to bowl 140+.

Sad but Im now hoping for a few injuries so he has to be flown over there.

McGrath was struggling to bowl 130 kmh his last few years, pretty sure he was still taking a few wickets then
different era i know but the principles of cricket havent changed surely?

The reason i lose interest in the Aussie team at times over the years is because of inept selections (Or non selections) and embarrassing captains that carry on like a spoilt school kid when things dont go his way.

No mate, played district cricket on the weekend.

Therein lies the thing many of us knock about the BBL, the dearth of first class red ball cricket for our domestic cricketers from mid December to early February.

Why don't they play some 2nd XI cricket during January period to bridge this gap of those not playing BBL?

I also don't understand why the BBL goes so long, they need to have more double headers (esp 26/12 - 5/1 period) and reduce the comp by at least a week, then you wouldn't have the farcical situation of the international BBL games crossing over the BBL finals.
