How many blokes that were in the Ashes squad aren't going to South Africa then? 7,8,900?

That's the whole issue here.

It's the selectors prerogative to choose the team as they see fit and they will live and die by those selections.

What you can't defend though is the arrogant (or gutless, i'm not sure which it is) manner in which they run the process.

What a crock of shit from captain grumpy. The bloke was 12th man for a test match this ******* summer and he doesn't get a call about an upcoming tour.

Where is the Redbacks coach in all of this? His Western Australian counterpart seems to be able to get his thoughts out into thr public domain

Its a brutal industry.
Not everyone is going to like the selectors decisions.
Not every player is going to be ecstatic, and not every player will feel they have been treated fairly.
...... but to talk up conspiracy theories and bring in State-bias is nonsensical
SA supporters will go into bat for Sayers. WA supporters would probably be feeling the same about Ashton Agar.

I think the selections for the Ashes series were excellent. The Marsh boys have proven to be inspired choices when many of us had stamped then as to never again play Test match cricket. Tim Paines selection has proven to be a master stroke.

I think some of the selections have been odd in the OD arena... Paine does not give us the X factor required as a keeper/batsman and Cummins and Zampa are not OD bowlers... whilst Maxwell should be instead of White. But that is my opinion, albeit backed up by results.

To suggest you want Australia lose 4 zip to stick it up the selectors is such an odd sentiment.

Very disappointing from Border.
Its one fuggin phone call.
Hohns should be sacked for showing utter disrespect by not picking up the phone.

Who else from the ashes squad would be devo about being dropped?
Its only Sayers in my opinion.

Jackson Bird should have been dropped after his only Test this summer.....only got selected because he was released from 13th man duties to enter into a shield game a day late and proceeded to clean up the teammates of the Australian 12th man....

I also don't understand why the BBL goes so long, they need to have more double headers (esp 26/12 - 5/1 period) and reduce the comp by at least a week, then you wouldn't have the farcical situation of the international BBL games crossing over the BBL finals.

BBL is only going to get longer.

You miss my point, I know its not going to get smaller, but put it over a shorter period. There is no reason why these teams can't play 3-4 games per week, some are going a week without a game, if you follow the IPL they regularly play 2 games per day.

Im guessing its a TV thing as CH10 want a game every night for nearly 50 days, but something has to give.

I totally get your point - but the tournament is only going to get longer in terms of days' length. They looking at footy encroaching on their territory and are going to push further out.

yep absolute rubbish

it wouldnt take any more than 5 mins of the selector's time to call him.

imagine if you got demoted at work (this is basically what it is, he was in the ashes squad) and nobody deemed it necessary to tell you

That is unbelievable, I hope James Sutherland is giving them a grilling over the handling of this issue, anyone that has been in a squad recently deserved a 5 min phone call, it's basic common sense.

Sayers should not have been left out but Birds record is equally as good as Sayers and then throw in his good start to test career.

Should have been Richardson out, Sayers in.

Totally agree - but people can also be handled with dignity and respect.

I've sat on numerous selection committees over the years... the first people you speak to are the players on the edge of selection. Every time, without fail.

To let players find out through Social media is piss weak or arrogant by the selectors.

Him and Ricky Ponting were the first cricket autographs I ever got - saw them at Morphetville races one arvo before an Adelaide test, would've been 20+ years ago lol.
