Redbacks have played in the last 2 Shield Finals
On paper they look to have a good experienced team unaffected by Australian selections.

You think so?

We are a very young developing squad, I think we've exceeded expectations to make the final in successive years, we have a 23 year old captian and a mountain of youth gaining experience.

20: Grant.
21: Dalton.
23: Weatherald, Head.
25: Lehmann, Zampa, Ross.
26: Richardson, Worrall, Carey.
28: Mennie.
30: Sayers.
31: Cooper.
33: Ferguson.

I think we're in great steed,

Helps when he gets to bowl on decks that produce results, not like the shit that Cairns dished up!

25/40 wickets fell in the QLD v SA match - that's pathetic. Sayers took 3 of the 8 QLD wickets to fall - that's a better percentage of wickets than Bird :D

Also only 11 points separating top to bottom at the halfway mark. Any side that can win a couple in a row can find themselves in the final

The Redbacks aren't traveling that bad. The loss to TAS was terrible and piss weak, and they were torn to shreds by a full strength NSW and on fire Starc in Round 1 - most sides would've copped the same.

Apart from that:

VIC 345 & 8/273 drew SA 322 & 8/370 - came within a couple of wickets of the victory, VIC did well to salvage the draw.

WA 7/514 & 173 def by SA 363 & 5/325 - probably a great escape here, bowled beautifully in the WA 2nd dig, and then showed the potential we have with the bat to chew the runs down only losing 5 wickets, pretty impressive effort.

QLD 5/389 & 3/125 drew SA 485 & 7/234 - score says it all really. Flat hard deck that really didn't deteriorate over the 5 days and offered sweet FA to the bowlers.

If we had of got Monty out like we did in the second dig it would've been a different story.

We will lose some games we shouldn't and vice versa, I do like that we seem to have some direction and structure about the place.

Got the NZ v WI test on, the crowd would be lucky to be 100. We averaged 40,000 per day!

I reckon you and I would be half a chance to represent the WI. And that team beat England in England.

Richardson, Zampa, Carey, Head all in the Aussie Twenty20 squad, May not have them for first Shield game. Also Ferguson has a hamstring injury.

Team?

Weatherald
Dalton
Kelvin Smith?
Lehmann
Cooper
Alex Ross?
Harry Nielsen?
Cameron Valente? Or do we go a spinner?
Mennie
Sayers
Worrall

Looks a bowler short still? Could Cooper bowl some overs of spin? If so then i'd be happy with that side and have the 4x meds carry the bulk of the work.

Excellent question!

Cooper is the most experienced but surely is on his very last chance in the team. Jake Lehmann?

Mennie and Sayers would be fine you'd think but we tend not to have bowling captains.

Cooper bowls some dart offies. Kelvin Smith actually bowls half decent part-time offies. Gets some turn.

Not ideal but I don't think Andrews or Cormack offer enough in four day cricket to be one of a four-man attack. Both seem more suited to white ball stuff at the moment.

Is Furguson our official vice Captain?

Ferg is vice captain. With him injured Cooper only option. And if we had a full team he probably would have been dropped for Ross!

Andrews not up to it, Cormack one day bowler only. They love David Grant, but Valente much better bat.

Tom Andrews 4-for in the 2nd dig of the Futures game. Might be timely for him.

SA 4/188 chasing 340 odd in the 4th innings.
