Talk on the national game

I personally think the idea has merit - playing on soccer pitches is a huge positive as it allows them to play anywhere easily.

This will allow the game to be more easily played in summer, where cricket takes up the ovals and soccer pitches lay idle except for A-League, and internationally.

I think it will overtake AFL nines as their premier non-contact and social form of the game, and i can see it taking off in that format.

BUT

I dont see why it needs to be played using AFL teams at this time of year. Its an injury waiting to happen, and they may get a half decent crowd due to curiosity, but that will fade quickly.

That's my point, except I'm not sure it will fade but running in tandem with the AFLW will kill off one of the comps.

Yep, let's get these athlete's to play a high intensity version of the game in the pre season before they're match hardened and ready to stop / start / change direction.

Great idea, Gil, great idea.

It's amazing how inspired one can get whilst quaffing Pimm's at a polo event.

There's a few issues with ALFX but i dont think conditioning of the participants will be one of them. All clubs will have been playing these style of games for months as part of regular training. It will be very low contact so collision injuries should be minimal and players changing direction at speed is part of training all year round.

Looking at the draw it seems Adelaide get the raw end of the stick.

Hopefully they drop to $5 tomoz.

I see CA is now joining the fight against the AFL, expected to announce a full 14 round BBL next year and once games move into February they will take on an AFL style programming look with Friday night diouble headers and Saturday and Sunday games with no mid week games. This should kill off AFLX and AWFL pretty quick or at least force a change of dates. I for one am very happy CA is attempting to take back ownership of the entire summer. Cricket is October to March football is April to September, pi55 off AFL.

Lots of sideshow acts, dancers, hula hoops, stilts, amps, etc rocking up. Haven't seen anything related to footy here yet.

Scratch that, just saw a heap of blow up footys next to a garden style bar behind the southern stand.
