Things that you would think would be done pretty quickly during a season seem to take forever over summer.

You can see the destination (Rd 1) but time seems to slow up in getting there, like a bad dream.

Bite were finished in December Phil!
PAFC. Forever.

Is channel 7 showing the sanfl this year?

The sanfl should approach Radio Adelaide and ask if they would want to get involved with calling games.

I'm guessing by Phil's references that LifeFM will be back calling games, which is a step in the right direction.

When North was on the Radio I had a routine. Up at 5:00am, on a Sunday more often than not, write out today’s teams in their likely positions and research the opposition to guess who would likely match up on who. You had to visualise where the ball was during the game, you got to know the opposition as well as you own fringe players, the youngsters given a chance at league level, players coming back from injury an so on.

Great post JTC.
The above, in particular, reminds me of when I first discovered footy was on the radio, back in the early 80's.
The Advertiser, or The News, used to have a little diagram of the teams named in their positions, inside an oval. I used to have that page spread on the kitchen table, with the game going. When I heard a player's name on the radio, I would find that name on the team sheet and imagine him with the ball in that part of the field, and follow the ebb and flow of the game that way. If it was in the last minute, and Sturt was less than a goal up, and you heard Colin Casey had the ball, I would yell and urge him onto greater deeds, as in my mind's eye, the full back would be right in front of the goals and turn overs can happen at anytime.
Likewise, whenever you heard the name Hollis or Davies you would brace yourself for the commentator to announce the ball "going straight through the center".
Of course players get moved by the coach, and drift out of position, and all that, but it helped build the suspense, imagining them all in the position named in that little diagram.
It is probably a silly story to read now, maybe one for the "who gives a ..." category, but it is how I was introduced to live SANFL league footy, and we are talking about the radio, and I used to get so bloody excited listening to commentator and the crowd issuing out of that little box.
Footy is not the same without it.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

Seems to me that since olsen has been at the sanfl nothing has been done to either support or promote the competition. He is just running it into the ground at the behest of the afl

BTW - This is not the NEAFL, this is the AFL Queensland Comp, what they call the 3rd tier.

What a great and positive move for their league!

AFL Queensland is pleased to announce that 25 matches across the 2018 QAFL season, in addition to all six finals matches, will be streamed live and free.

At least one QAFL game will be streamed with play-by-play commentary per week on aflq.com.au throughout the season, with an additional six games to be broadcast throughout the season to showcase the biggest matches of the year.

The coverage will commence in Round 1 with two live games, including the traditional ANZAC Eve clash between Sandgate and Wilston Grange at Lemke Road.

The announcement represents the first time AFL Queensland has committed to providing unmitigated coverage of the QAFL to the public and is a great step forward for the promotion and visibility of the league.

That's awesome it's free but I'm guessing this is funded by the AFL as they now run the State comp is Queensland.

I liked Labrador as they won me 5k when they lost to North by 35+ points.
Was the last serious bet I ever made.

Yes indeed; go the Panthers.

The only team with a 100% win record against the now defunct PAMs. 8)

So has the SANFL canned the digital pass after 1 season?

Is Life FM doing just 1 game or multiple games each week?

Sister in Law from Melbourne asked the question this week of the SANFL and was told the woman's games are streamed free. The mens digital pass will be launched just prior to the season. No indication of cost other than to suggest there will be one.

Not really promoting the core product. But there you go

I think the pecking order (so far as media interest is concerned) is as follows:
AFL
AFL Women
AFL X
The Two Reserves teams in the SANFL
SANFL Women
SANFL Fast Footy
SANFL league
