Dom Barry best on first half? Been impressive!

Also reckon Watts and Trengove have shown glimpses.

Neade has looked horrible and Amon hasn’t overly impressed me so far.

Vardy for WCE seems to be in everything.

Having Watts, Westhoff and Dixon forward with guys like Wingard, S. Gray R. Gray/Rockliff and Motlop is going to prove a handful for defences this season. Haven’t minded Boaks efforts in patches, he won’t kick many goals but his decision making is always pretty good and reasonable user of the ball.

Both sides very indecisive but West Coast have been at times dreadful.

Motlop looks like he has picked up a calf injury.

Really didn't see anything different from Port today.

Same scrappy ball movement, same poor forward structure, same inability to hit leads, same over-emphasis on stopping rather than scoring.

First crack at it I know, but ordinary start. Lost the same way we have for years under Hinkley.

Yeah, chose to bump instead of putting head over the ball/ body on the line, the WC player hit high is groggy (possibly concussed?), was unable to take the field afterwards...

Same Port that was the second best defensive unit last year, second best scoring side and number one scoring from stoppage side.

Did you really expect to see a completely different game plan from them? If so you’re a fool. The recruits were brought in to compliment Hinkley’s style and tidy up some of that F50 conversions.

I didn’t think Ports ball movement or skill levels were as poor as WCS either FWIW, and I think the heat and fact it was first game should be factored in.

Stop being a pessimist.

Not just them. It's the same loss Port supporters have experienced ad infinitum.

Play half the side behind the ball, get plenty of it, tackle hard, try hard, dominate huge swathes of the game but just do not execute or have any semblance of forward line potency.

It's week 1 of the JLT so I'll cut us some slack and wait to see us live, but yeah, the game was cause for concern.

< Marshall

Watts > Marshall - better user of the ball.
Westhoff > Marshall - verstatility, athleticism and running capacity.
Marshall > Both - forward nous and goal sense.

Yes, the same side that finished 7th despite having one of the softest draws in living memory and numerous dead rubber games against terrible sides that padded team stat lines.

We beat up on shit sides and got exposed by the better ones.

Not really after a whole new game plan, but better execution and maybe a subtle shift in the forward line to result in better forward line efficiency. Would have liked to have seen more of Dixon deep with Watts at CHF and Westhoff floating.

Fair. As I said, first crack at it. Lets see what we do on the hallowed turf in a couple of weeks.

I’m not a happy clapper, just taking it for what it is - a preseason hit out with what 25 players? Trialling players and seeing what they can do in different roles.

Also depends on what you’re looking at with whether it’s good or bad - for me I saw Trengove look quite composed and clean in traffic - when he, Ebert, Gray and Ryder were together in the first half it looked potent.

Also saw a very sound backline that made life difficult, and Dom Barry on the wing look super dangerous, and even when he didn’t have it seemed to be free in space.

Saw Watts show glimpses of class and the benefit he will provide to that forward line, and yes suspect we will see him play higher with Dixon deep OR play deep with Dixon and have Wingard/Rockliff high.

I did also see guys like Neade, Thomas, Amon have sub standard games IMO - hard to see Neade playing this year. Also thought Pittard was a bit ordinary.

Drop a few fringe guys, bring in Rockliff, and I still think round 1 looks a potent side
