Great insightful observation after one pre-season game on 25 February

Yeah, chose to bump instead of putting head over the ball/ body on the line, the WC player hit high is groggy (possibly concussed?), was unable to take the field afterwards...
Yep, he’ll be sweet.

Gray realised late that McGovern would be first to the footy. Bump? Sheesh. Jared Polec has dished out harder hits, Gray did all the right things in tucking his arm in. Contact was best case scenario for both players. Simpson said that McGovern wanted to come back on and play, but was held back. Rightfully so- why risk it in a JLT match. Regular season game or final, McGovern plays out the match without debate.

In saying that- Gray is at the mercy of Michael Christian, so we will see him against Sydney.

Several seasons of 2/10. 1 game of 1/10 if that. Simple maths. He was never that bad for us in preseason games!

PS I hope he does well, I'm a big fan of his talent, but wowweee you'd think hed want to impress for his new club and was even worse than usual! Didn't seem in the slightest interested.

To be fair, not many senior blokes had a real dip. Was more the younger kids that were having a fair crack at it as per usual in the pre-season

Yeah, more than a bit harsh. I'm still tipping he will drive Port fans to distraction this year. He's very one sided and it was evident n one passage of play which resulted in an Eagle shot a goal. So talented but might get destined to remain a footy mystery.

What an awful game of football to watch, the second and third quarters were terrible.

For the established players Dixon looks set for a huge year, Boak ( not mentioned in the AFL website best players ) appears at home across half forward, Wines doing his bit in the guts, Powell-Pepper still just needs some poise with ball in hand and the defence looked top heavy when Howard, Hombsch, Clurey and Jonas were all down there, one of them has got to go.

Amon takes Polec's spot in the wing for now, Pittard looks to be the preferred user of the ball coming out of defence with no Broadbent down there ( or Houston at this point ), few blokes looked they just needed the run including Ebert and Ryder, Neade has ensured he doesn't play round 1. If you're running around as the defensive small forward you need to tackle players, actually tackle them and either dislodge the ball or pin them.

For the recruits Motlop and Watts looked out of position far too often, might have been their first full hit out in a new game style but rarely did they seem to be where their team mates were looking for them, Barry making a real case for selection in round 1 on the wing / high forward with an impressive game yesterday, won't discuss Thomas, no point.
PAFC. Forever.

LOOK OUT, WE'RE COMING!

Absolute correct weight on all counts Booneh.

Really pleased with Boak's movement. Hasn't covered the ground that well for a long time.

Surely as a Port fan you would have wanted to see more from a star recruit in his first game for the club? 8 touches, 0 tackles. Looked like the same old Motlop.

I'd be giving Dom Barry a game in front of Motlop, Thomas, Neade...

Gray will get 1 week under the new system they reckon. Reckless, medium impact = 1 week. No discounts or anything for early plea's under the new system

Thomas and Neade should never come under consideration unless there's a massive lot of injuries.

I'd be thinking Gray will end up with 2 despite doing all he could to avoid heavy contact, his only option would've been to jump away and look like a total girl.

Yeah, he was never going to get to the ball before McGovern, if he went low they probably would've clashed heads, I think he just sort of braced himself given that he'd be 10kgs lighter and would come off second best.

McGovern is 6ft a lot

Gray is 4ft not much

They both went as "low" and you'd expect.

An unfortunate football incident ensued. Really nothing either could have done. I'd expect Gray to get off.

Did think Motlop was bit ordinary - and appeared bit lazy in patches, but I still feel like Watts wasn't bad at all.

I got the impression Dixon & Watts were supposed to be playing quite deep, and Westhoff a little higher - the breakdown generally was either wing to half forward, or the rushed kick inside 50 that was often picked off by the West Coast defence.

Dixon and Watts stats are quite similar, but I must say Dixon is a scary looking man, his presence is huge and when he starts chasing guys they must be close to shitting their dacks haha!

What were your thoughts on Trengove? I thought he was alright.

Altey appeared to be around the ball a bit and everyone loves him but he burnt it a bit.

I don't think need for panic still - a lot of players who had less game time than usual - Ebert 44% , Hombsch 66%, Trengove 52%, Houston 60%, Gray 66%, Amon & Atley 60%.

My concern is Port don't seem to have an out and out ball magnet who can regularly accumulate 30+ each week, and still use it well.

Interesting theory Morrell. Would have thought the shorter person would find it easier to get lower

Watched the replay of the incident today, makes no real attempt for the ball, but just braces for impact, doesnt look like he is going out of his way to hit mcgovern. does get him in the head though, and that usually spells trouble.

Hinkley tried to use the Cotchin incident as the precedent that Gray should get off, but we all know that the Cotchin one was a farce and it was just because it was a GF, so I reckon gray goes for a week.
