The South Australian Political Landscape

Labor, Liberal, Greens, Democrats? Here's the place to discuss.

But what happens to Adelaide when the party’s over? After the curtains close, so does the economy. Outside of Mad March, South Australia threatens to top the league table no one wants to be on: that of worst-performing state.

doesnt mention the adelaide 500 once?

Its not a once off event Benny haha

My missus lives in Medindie and works on Rundle Street, I am in there 3 or 4 times a week.

So you like the city, it's just not when there's lots of people in there?
I love the City, yes. Gouger Street, the Central Markets, Leigh Street, Rundle Street, The East End. Up to O'Connell Street. North Terrace is spectacular. All the new bars and restaurants. It's ******* mint man, It's honestly booming.

I don't mind it when it's busy, but in March, there is too much, and the infrastructure hasn't caught up yet, so enjoying all of the aforementioned becomes too difficult and many people then choose to stay away. Not to mention the race literally eats up a lot of that infrastructure - parking, traffic routes etc - exacerbating the problem.

If it was timed a bit better or moved, it would be more efficient and we'd get a more consistent revenue.

I've just learnt that Rundle Street is closed this afternoon for a fringe street party.

There is literally one road out of the city heading east. It's cooked

It mentioned how Adelaide is going gangbusters in March, but then dies in the arse, with some ideas on how to improve that.

While we are getting the car race out of the city because its making moving around the place too difficult, can we also move the Anzac day march, christmas pagent, fringe parades, feast parade amd anything else that closes a street down.

Which then means all of the other routes turn into choke points.

Its a great thing, all this frivolity, but it needs more thought.

Harping all the way back to original post - this is all that the Greens MP was saying.

Same arguments can be made for all the things mentioned.

Just think if a city like Monaco had this mindset, 1 of the most iconic motor races would never happen

No it's not. I've made multiple nuanced arguments about why I think it should be moved and retimed.

And I've already answered the second part.

No they can't. None of them require 2+ weeks of gridlock.

Nor, to the best of my knowledge, does Monaco. I would probably have a different opinion if it was F1, too.

Yeah nah, heck even the numbers on here, a place dominated by males aged 30+, are split.

well going back to the original post, the sooner the Greens fall by the way side like the democrats the better.

Yes, one side dominating politics is a healthy thing for the constituency - said no sane person, ever.

The Greens play an important part in the diversity of a healthy modern democracy.

They're also not going anywhere, have a huge share of the youth vote. Inner Melbourne is painted Green at the moment, wouldn't surprise me to see Adelaide head in that direction over time.

Just as do the Australian Conservatives, but I wouldn't give either end of that scale my first preference - or even my second... ;)

Fair enough. But I agree, the Conservatives are needed too.
