That there is no sliding scale on the salary cap from D1 to D7 remains truly ridiculous.

That the worst performing D7 side can have a nominally equivalent value to the D1 premiers is just wrong, will force clubs to extinction and contributes to the culture that Bedge describes above.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, but D1 should have the full $4k/$500 that BLG/SFL/HFL etc. have, D2 $3,500/$450, D3 $3,000/$400, D4 $2,500/$350

and so on, so forth.

There should also be a reigning in on points to prevent D1 clubs using a higher salary cap to headhunt D5-7 juniors in the above-mentioned hypothetical.

We used to get paid "per win" and that was a pittance compared to now, we also only got half on the Saturday night and the remainder on presentation night with deductions for missed trainings.

Can I ask, if any of you sat down with a club in this div and they offered you that money would you say yes or no?

Elizabeth FC must be doing something right then, not 1 player or coach gets paid and to have 4 sides in the comp this year shows these guys just play for the jumper. Plenty of guys have been approached by other clubs with $$ but have stayed to play with their mates and hopefully win a flag together.

Yes and no.

If lower ranked clubs source sponsors and have money to splurge then good on them, if that's how they wish to roll to get up the grades well then that's their prerogative, I do get your point though.

Totally agree that a lot of clubs could learn a lot from the Elizabeth model.

I do know last season playing out there we got beat pretty easy in both games but the club put on numerous jugs, brought our players cans of spirits and food and all.

Was very hard to leave the club and everyone there made you feel welcome.

How much of this money actually comes from the junior section of the club?

That's what happens when you appoint a coach that has played for the jumper forever and is a great talker, respect isn't expected, it's earnt.

People are different though, i'm not driven by $$ - have had plenty of nice offers to play cricket over the years, but never have, nor would I ever accept money to play cricket. Just me though.

Yep, there is my sore point, my lad played for a club that high registration costs plus a weekly umpire fee, I've ran junior footy clubs before and I know how much the umpires get and the numbers didn't really add up.

It stood out like dog balls when I attended the low budget presentation where the funds were going.

As you roll up the grades your salary cap increases (and decreases as you roll down grades).

How is it to the benefit of the League for a team which would be nominally of D1 Value to be in D7?

I think this is why some of the clubs that have large numbers of juniors are also the higher div clubs. Can keep topping up with the best players as the dollars are constantly coming in. Then juniors l/parents want to involved in that club.

I see that at CLG with Mitcham, Goodwood and Unley all close by. They are the ‘cool’ clubs. Good luck to them, not having a whinge.

I can't vouch for too many, I know that as a junior parent and your kid plays against the likes of Payneham, Walkerville and Broadview, you do see well drilled clubs that have big numbers for a reason.

I think it is also dependent on where you grew up playing football. Growing up at Kilburn it was all about paying players to try and win div 1 flags. I played my first game of A grade at 15 and received $30 for both games. Growing up there I just always wanted to play A grade football, would have done it for nothing.

When I coached U9s the other year, I couldn't believe how well drilled and skilful the kids were from sides like PNU, Walkies, Golden Grove and TTG.

Remember when you are a bigger club and people want to be there they get to select the best youngsters which helps them look well drilled. Can run better drills and trainings as you don’t have some lesser type players

Got to say CLG is very good at including all kids of any ability. A number of senior players are out helping the kids at training which is excellent
