To win "most improved" 2 years in a row sort of says he must've been well behind the 8 ball to begin with.

Great portfolio nonetheless, could be an argument for greatest CHF in the game.

There is, I can't remember where though. ;) :D

Magellan, with regards to Mark Williams:

Mark played under Fos at Westies. Port wanted him and Fos stopped coaching West so the move was made (along with his brothers IIRC).

Fos was originally a West Adelaide player and did not start league footy until the age of 25(?) due to war service. Like all men and women who served, I offer my respect and admiration for their great sacrifice.

Fos went to Port as they offered him the role of Captain/Coach which quite rightly paid more.

Reading those write-ups just reinforces and reminds me of all the history and prestige of SANFL over the years, and what is slowly being lost, never to be the same again. :(

Heck of a lot of AFL accolades in there beigey.

A 'real' footy club would aspire to play at the highest level they could, which is what the *real* Port Adelaide made happen.

I skipped past the AFL crap...............

Northeast was one of my favourite players.
As mentioned in the article he epitomised what the Magpies were all about.

Guys like Northeast played for the guernsey, those days are long gone. Half the players in the AFL now would have no clue of their clubs history and couldn’t care who they play for as long as the bills are paid.

Utter bullshit. Know for a fact every player gets a long induction on Port Adelaide history. They all talk about it afterwards. There are ex players who do guernsey presentations. I mean for **** sake we literally run out though a tunnel called the Geoff Motley Race with the players names and their photos on the wall.

We train in the air hanger with the SANFL flags on the wall!

Moronic comment.

C’mon Morrell, I didn’t take you for a happy clapper and a head in the sand type bloke.

Of course they have the history rammed down their throat but do you really think they care about it like the players of yesteryear?

It’s not the same and will never be the same. In the SANFL days with zoning kids were brought up supporting a club and aspired to play for that club from a young age, I’d say 90% of the team wanted to play for that particular club. Now the kids are drafted to clubs they aren’t really interested in and have no affiliation with so it’s just a job. The passion for the guernsey is nowhere near like it once was

Some would some wouldn't. There have been innumerable players that have expressed Port Adelaides tradition and history as being a critical factor in their commitment to the club. I think it's a huge reason why we don't tend to lose players we want to keep.

Do you really think every Magpie player was a dyed in the wool Creed reading Fos zealot?

That may very well be true, but a football club is still a football club, and Port Adelaide do not for a second shirk the issue when it comes to our tradition and history being first and foremost in our AFL culture. Plenty of Magpies players came from different clubs and places too.

So yep, it's changed. And Port adapted. Like we always did. Because we're the best..
