That;s an interesting proposition. Bloody minded, but interesting nonetheless.

Also Port are saying they haven't had any conversations about a reserves comp with the AFL since 2014.

So you suspect the SANFL believe having Port and Adelaide is better for the competition as a whole than not having them?

The club has released a statement to that effect, but that'll get declared hogwash by those in here who believe it so.

It depends what you mean by "the SANFL".
Only those in the SANFL deluded by ulterioir motives would say that, I suspect none would think that.

Really the AFL setting up a reserves comp has nothing to do with the SANFL.

If the AFL wants to set up a reserve comp they will do it regardless what the SANFL think and all the AFL clubs will do exactly as the AFL tells them to do.

Yeah we would never have seen Ken Farmer, Russell Ebert, Barrie Robran or Malcolm Blight play in this state if it wasn't for the Crows.
A bigger force than World Wars even before they were invented are the Crows.
Hard to imagine why some think they're arrogant.

Pretty sure that was meant to be 1990.

Whoops, yes.

Agreed, I'm referring to the SANFL fans who ( to use ones words ) would "rather see the comp die than one of those two win the flag".

I don't know why Crows and supporters are so upset, its a win/win/win proposition for everyone.
That current resentment fence sitting Crows have when one of their SANFL players joins the local AFL side will disappear.
Costs will be up but surely the AFL will pay for it as some clubs wouldn't be able to afford it.

Before or after Norths premiership?
Norths financial fortunes turned around in 2003 and it was nothing to do with the Crows that it happened.

Agreed.

Might not just cost them financially, but one could argue the competition was dying a slow death well before the entry of the two AFL sides anyway.

So the 1980s wasn’t a golden era for the sanfl.

Keep rewriting history fellas. BennyMac and Mw will believe you.

Apologies UK, that should have read before the entry of the 2 AFL reserves sides.

All good I still disagree. Only thing close to dying/been foreclosed was not the sanfl in 2012.

No SANFL clubs merged.

PAFC on the other hand needed to merge with a sanfl club.....

Absolutely we were close to death. VERY close.

I did say the SANFL has been dying a slow death for years.

If the national reserves comp gets off the ground and the SANFL goes back to an 8 team comp, as has been mentioned, the challenge for SANFL execs will be to appeal to the next generation.

FWIW- I would hate to see one of the oldest sporting comps in Australia die, and hope that it can strengthen itself moving forward.

They're better off appealing for cashed up older people to return, the SANFL hasn't had a generation look at it as it's sole football focus for 30 years.

Ask everyone you know in their 20's how many SANFL games they watch or go to a year and how many AFL games they watch or go to.

Correct, which in itself is only a short term fix.

U are aware That was essentially the AFLs sale pitch in 1990 to the SANFL

Yes, when the SANFL owned the Crows license.

And ???? Why do we want the crows in our comp if we dont own their licences.

If you want independence. Take it.

THe only time you have ever been in the comp was when you wanted independence ???

Contradiction ???

You're mistaking me for someone who wants the Crows in the SANFL. Far from it. My argument (today at least...) is Crows don't owe SANFL a dime to exit.

I asked my 21yo daughter, she went to 20 SANFL games, 40 if you include that she was there for all the reserves too.
She went to 3 AFL games, one at Adelaide Oval and two at the MCG including the Grand Final which she had a free ticket to (big Killers fan).
The only others I know in their 20s don't follow the AFL at all.
Edit: 4 AFL games, I forgot about the Etihad game between St Kilda and Collingwood you gave us free tix to Booney! :)
