Amazing that people think there is some law whereby the SANFL has to agree to a game of football being played...

It doesn’t and wouldn’t want to because it doesn’t need to. It has a structure in place that manages that. It’s called a tier system, which enables the governing body to function and only be involved in critical or presidential issues. You could be pretty sure the AFL forming a Reserves League that would need to play in SA would be seen as both.

According to the Education department design guidelines yes........it says to consult the SANFL in regards to designing football ovals.

Also refers to SACA for cricket.

Think if I had the land/resources available to me you don't think I can build a footy oval without getting anything more than Development Act approval

Probably correct. But that doesn’t mean you could start playing league football on it without adhereing to specific rules and regulations. Those rules and regulations are laid down by the governing body.

bennymacca wrote:The SANFL obviously have jurisdiction over the SANFL, independent of the AFL, which is why the AFL needed permission to field the reserves teams in the SANFL.

But the SANFL have no jurisdiction over the Crows or the Power anymore, they sold those licences. So if they wanted to play in an AFL reserves comp, ran by the AFL and not the SANFL, i doubt they would have anything to do with it. Just like they have nothing to do with the Crows playing in the AFL now.

I think that is the point. By selling the licences the SANFL probably also handed over governance of the two clubs to the governing body of the AFL. Whether that included two Reserve teams is questionable. If it didn’t then the AFL would still need to get approval from the SANFL to have a Reserves League play in SA.

They wouldn’t need approval to play in Victoria or any other state and they don’t need approval to withdraw the Reserves from the SANFL neither,, although I’d suspect there are contractural issues around that.

didnt thje crows reserves play GWS ressies at footy park last year during the SANFL finals and the week off that the AFL side had. If the SANFL didnt stop that game they arent going to stop any reserves games in SA. They wouldve been well within their rights to not allow that game, was in direct competitionm to sanfl finals, the crows made theri bed,

Absolutely the SANFL has some control of all affiliated leagues.

In the hypothetical scenario discusses why would you agree to affiliate?

Are there actually SANFL fans trying to claim that the AFL would need SANFL approval to run an AFL Reserves comp in SA?

That is quite honestly one of the largest exhibitions of a delusion of grandeur I think I have ever encountered.

John, what is the basis of your assertion that the description "governing body" provides an exclusive right to sanction the playing of football?

Do you accept the Australian Cricket Board of Control was the governing body of Australian cricket during World Series Cricket?

Governing by its very nature retires the consent of the governed

Answer my questions first.

Furthermore sport is essentially just intellectual property of rules and customs. The SANFL does not own the intellectual property of Australian rules football.

Even if you were right (which you're not) how in your view would it be compliant with the anti competitive provisions of the Competition and Consumer La Act?

Lets say WWT got in before the crows and wanted to play GWS reserves in that trial because they didnt like the week off, do you think that wouldve been allowed?

They aren’t licensed to us good luck with the charge.

Anyone else note the reports sanfl are looking to block crows/ port joining afl reserves.

Who the hell does the sanfl think it is ???? hahahaha

Hopefully sanfl negotiating some sort of compensation package otherwise contract stands.

Catch up people. No need to apologise

The SANFL could have exerted some sort of pressure on WWT not to play the match, sure, but the idea that as the 'governing body' of football they actually have a veto on football matches being played in this state is laughable.

That sentence doesn't make sense either grammatically or logically.

What do you understand licence and charge to mean in the context you just used?

Lol, they can call themselves the governing body all they like, and yes of course they are a powerful organization affiliated with most or all football leagues in South Australia, but calling themselves the 'governing body' doesn't vest the league with some sort of legal power to prevent private citizens from organising matches of footy.

Why would they prevent it. Private citizens kicking a footy on the Oval nothing to do with sanfl.

It’s a nothing event. What to organise a league on the other hand.
