Not only the isolated 1v1 contests, but let's not forget that Watts is an elite user of the ball by foot, he's a key link whether it be having his own shots on goal, or setting them up - i'm sure Dixon will much prefer having Watts deliver him the ball than someone who kicks a half arsed mongrel punt hospital ball.

Watts showed on the weekend, he only needs to have a few kicks to impact the score board - Dixon was similar last year as well, regularly accurate.. add in Wingard and Sam Gray, and in theory, converting F50 entries into scores (and more importantly goals) looks more achievable.

PORT Adelaide captain Travis Boak is an all but certain starter for the Power's round one clash with Fremantle at Adelaide Oval on Saturday.

Boak missed Port's second game of the JLT Community Series against Adelaide with tightness in his right hamstring.

"I'll be right," Boak told reporters on Monday.

"I got through some training on Saturday, I've got to get through Tuesday and Thursday, but it feels really good.

"There was a minor hot spot a couple of weeks ago. We just took a cautious approach and I've got through all the training so far, and tick a couple more boxes and I'll be right to go."

Star recruit Tom Rockliff (knee) and midfield bull Sam Powell-Pepper (shoulder) are also on track to face the Dockers.

"Rocky trained Saturday and got through that session," Boak said.

"Sam is good to go as well.

"He trained Saturday and got through that session. Again, he'll get through this week and be ready to go, so we should have a full-strength side."

If Rockliff does take his place in the side, it will be his first game for the Power after missing both pre-season matches.

Boak believes the former Brisbane skipper has done enough work to get himself ready despite a lack of games.

"He's had a fantastic pre-season, he's done all the work apart from a couple weeks where we had to slow him down a little bit," Boak said.

"He's a player that could come straight in and make an impact straight away.

"There's no risk I don't think there of him coming straight in."

Defenders Jasper Pittard (hamstring) and Matthew Broadbent (ankle) are the Power's only two players unavailable for the season opener, while All Australian forward Robbie Gray is suspended.

Pittard's absence opens the door for impressive 21-year-old Riley Bonner to play just his fifth career game.

Bonner made his debut in the final game of the 2016 season, but had to wait until round 22 last year to return to the side, holding his spot for the last three games, including the elimination final with West Coast.

"What he adds is a lot of composure through the half-back line, a beautiful kick and he takes the game on," Boak said of Bonner.

"You've got to have those players coming off half-back and really want to create.

"Jasper's certainly one of those, and I think (Riley) is going to be a fantastic player and hopefully gets his opportunity in round one."

Would've thought looking rusty would be common for pre-season hence the point of the games? :?

A fair enough opinion, Morell.

Copped that knock to the knee quite early in the piece during the intraclub, IIRC. I thought he did some good things before that, and was pretty well taken off at half time.

Could have played JLT2 but was rested as precaution. Would have done plenty of match sim training over the 6 week block heading into R1.

Have no doubt he is ready to go on Saturday.

That would be a smart move. Rocky doesn't have a great injury history so you don't want to burn him in March. Of the other recruits I thought Watts was impressive. Moves well and kicks accurately. Just his physical approach and sometimes his decision making that is the knock.

Had a shoulder recon in early October and he, along with Ebert, would probably have extra miles in the legs over some others as they didn't join full contact until mid-January.

Might be two fold, he's sore because he's done more miles than some of the other mids, certainly pre-Xmas.

If they beat Freo and all their ring ins play well, they'll come back. Unfortunately for Port, that's what is needed otherwise they'll stay away

The media only tell half the story. I recently got an email to join up to Adelaide Oval footy membership with no joining fee as they had so many spots free which has never happened before.
