Yet they will still go an play in the Indian IPL and make a heap
Yeah these are CA bans only. All they can do is stop them playing tests. So they'll go and prostitute themselves out now to the T20 comps around the globe.

Then Davy can get some pointers from Candy about that.

Would love to know the full story

Gut feel tells me Smith maybe a slightly more innocent party in this than we know but who knows really.

Same gut feel tells me Bancroft was more than just wrong place wrong time

I'll pose this question.
What if it was discussed and smith said no, but they went ahead anyway.
Plausible.

Ridiculous. Basically the same penalty Warne copped for breaching WADA code.

Call it childish and immature but I'm gutted about Smith

Yes just like a little kid at 34 I still like to have 'heroes' people I admire, people I look up to.

I understand sportspeople don't always make the best role models but I'm passionate about sport and find it easier to relate to them rather than doctor etc etc

The way Smith played the game was a great example of how I would want to live my life. He didn't have the best technique, he had a lot of doubters, he failed for a long period but he had confidence and trust in his ability that he continued to work hard at what he was passionate about... cricket. Finally the rewards came, he took his chance, he owned it. He proved his doubters wrong while remaining true to himself or in his case his infamous technique

But very unlikely.
We all want to believe Smith only played a small part in this but he’s up to his neck in it.
They wouldn’t have given him a 12 month suspension otherwise.
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

Not sure CA can legally do that as it is not governed under their rules, guess will have to wait and see

9 months apparently

I suspect this may also be punishment for the decline in behavioural standards over the last couple of years as well. I reckon CA are telling the lot through these penalties to pull their heads in.

No they can’t. The ICC has dished out all they can.
The BCCI are the only ones who can ban them from the IPL

BCCI has banned them from the IPL so they will be losing a lot of money.

The actual list of what they were sanctioned for just came out. Definitely looks like Mr Warner was the man in charge.

I can't believe the governing body of international doesn't have the will to penalise them as well.

Agree so much. Smith is not nearly conniving enough to fully buy into this. His naivety came out in that initial presser where he thought an honourable apology would be enough and that people would move on.
I am positive Warner and Bancroft teamed up on this. Seems as if Smith knew of it but didnt take steps to prevent it. His greatest guilt is he was not a strong leader when required.
I am with whufc.. i will miss Smith and I hope he is well supported. I will happily cheer his return.

Bans are absolutely spot on IMO.

What a peanut Warner is, deserves longer than Smith -

Warner was found to have been responsible for the "development of a plan to attempt to artificially alter the condition of the ball", and "instruction to a junior player to carry out a plan". The former vice-captain was also charged with providing advice to a junior player on how to tamper with the ball "including demonstrating how it could be done". Warner also misled the Newlands match officials by concealing his knowledge of and involvement in the plan and did not voluntarily report his involvement.
