How does AFC play the game tonight? im not sure the high intensity run and gun will work - we need to be smart hold on to the footy IMO

Agree. Very worried we've gone in too tall in the back line (again) against this mob, with Doedee, Talia and Hartigan back there.

Was surprised Galluci didnt come in for Hartigan or Doedee. I know you guys have a fair few injuries at the moment but thought they might have tried to go smaller

with all the nonsensical hysteria Doedee's debut was overshadowed. He showed plenty IMO,

take the pace off the game and our big guys should come into it more now with Tex back.

Using AFL site:

Caddy v Kelly
Graham Doedee
Jack R v Hartigan / Talia
Townsend v Talia /Hartigan

Works ok, its when Constagna, Short, Edwards etc all come on

I don't mind talls playing against shorter forwards as it works well in marking contests, but when the ball comes to ground, those guys are in a bit of trouble i reckon. If Talia is one on one against Townsend and the footy comes to ground, Talia is in for a bit of trouble imo.

Its an interesting topic tall v small. Should one side control the selection criteria or do you pick your best side and back in your structure. IMO you back your side and structure in and back yourself to win the footy and control the game.

Agreed.

And that’s why Richmond did so well last year - they stopped picking Griffiths or vickery just to keep a structure and went with their best team.

Crows should do the same and try to stretch the opposition in areas we excel at. Instead of the more defensive option of looking over your shoulder all the time

We got spanked in the GF last year but it was only one game. Don’t have to change everything about what we did so well last year

Much of what you did well defensively was built around Lever's intercept / spoiling and Smith's movement out. You're trying to replace them with Kelly and Milera. Milera...

Much of what you did well offensively was built around Cameron's pressure and getting "out the back", a lot to do with Smith's movement and freeing up Jenkins and Betts to outgun opponents. Might find sides more willing to keep someone at home to prevent that this year.

You sorely miss Lynch every time he misses, he's your barometer.

From an outsiders position, i think it is fine backing your forward half in to beat Richmond's defence (Whether it works or not is another thing).
I think for any team you always have to back your forward half of the ground to get the job done and it's the oppositions job to worry about matching or beating it with their defence. That's where it has surprised me that the Crows have gone in with the 3 talls in defence when they know Riewoldt will be the only KPF down there. Thought they would be better off going with Talia & Hartigan or Doedee, not both of the latter. Will be interesting as to how it plays out tonight.

Doedee is 'only' 188cm (6'2" in the old). Plays tall though.

Yeah didn't think he was overly tall, just plays as that 3rd tall defender. Looking at the Crows side, i'd play him over Hartigan tonight as i am not too sure there is a matchup for Hartigan

Looks more like laird than lever when he runs around tbh.

But yes agree, think he or kelly could take Townsend, and could have left Hartigan out
