I'll admit when I'm wrong. That seems to be the difference here.

How can I be wrong here? It's not right or wrong this discussion, it's a matter of opinion. I, and others, think the Aussie should have stopped, you and MW don't. High and mighty if you're suggesting you're right and we're wrong.

Watched it live. Noticed the Scottish bloke was going wobbly a good k or so before he fell. Was hoping the Aussie would stop pat him on the shoulder or whatever then keep going. Reckon he was pretty stuffed as well and not that I know perhaps stopping running at the 40k mark of a marathon is not a great idea. He may have struggled to start again himself. It would have been a great sporting gesture, but it didn’t happen. Can’t hang the bloke for not stopping.

Nope it's elite sport he shouldn't have stopped, difference between an Australian Championship race in the 1950s to Commonwealth Games in 2018, IMO.

Did we think Zola Budd should've stopped in the womens 5 km race when Mary Decker accidentally clipped her heels in the 5Km final at LA?

Missing the bigger issue here IMO, starting the Mens marathon at 8:00 am Gold Coast time - broad sunlight and humidity levels at 80-90%.

The marathon should've started at 6:00 am like they did in Brisbane in 82.

Don't blame the poor Aussie runner - who was clearly struggling too

Blame the organisers and TV for this C0ckup
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Hang on, hang on, go back a quote or two.

You've said you like the part where people can't bring themselves to admit they've over reacted. Then you've said you'll admit when you're wrong.

So is it the overreaction or the right/wrong bit?

Did I overreact? I don't think so.

Am I right/wrong? It's an opinion.

Where all runners expected to stop? what's the etiquette there for the next runner coming through?

Can't compare stopping after running for 40km to John Landys 1500m run.

If the Australian had made the Scot fall over and didn't stop - well then there may be some argument.

There's a time and a place.

So we can only ever have an opinion on something we've actually done?

Unless you've walked a mile in his shoes.....and lets face it, we haven't

my 2c - I can see why people think it's unsportsmanlike but at the same time I can see understand why he felt he couldn't stop. Even if he did stop, what could he have possibly done? seriously....

If anything people should be questioning why there weren't more medical staff around that close to the finish line/ why there weren't more allocated water stops / why didnt the Scot drink more water, knowing the conditions? How about questioning what it was that allowed this bloke to get like this in the first place.

Did you overreact? Yes. He was not the first one on the scene. He also had completed most of a marathon. It's not his responsibility.

Is your opinion wrong? Yes. Opinions can be wrong. You're opinion is he should have stopped to be a good sport. Nothing he did had any impact on the Scottish runner. Nothing he could have done could have helped him. There were others there to help. Exactly what was he supposed to do for him?

Apparently they were spaced out every 500 metres towards the arse end of the race.

Looking at the course, they double-back a few times so it wouldn't have been too hard to have sufficient medical staff on hand, not sure that they could've done too much more.

His fall prior to that looked sickening as there were kids right by, one old fella helped him up and then they all applauded as he carried on.
