I ran 30.50 at Darebin on Saturday, it’s a bit of an up and down course.

My best was 27.15 at Mt Barker which is a flat course.

Mind you 25 years and 25 kg’s ago I ran 22.00’s regularly

My 14yo daughter did a park run with her aunt on the weekend. Despite playing netball running isn't really her favourite thing to do. Went around in 35.20

Pretty happy to have broken 30 minutes this morning. I was actually just rolling along as I’m umpiring tomorrow and didn’t want to overdo it. Had a peak at the watch at the 4K mark and thought I would push on through to the end.

Got out this morning to the Mt Barker Park Run. Good set up, great weather, plenty of people out there. Heading to Melbourne next weekend, so am planning to find one over there to do next Saturday.

Good work mate. Funnily enough I am running at Mt Barker next week. There are plenty of park runs to choose from in Melbourne. Where are you staying?

Braybrook, the Caravan Park there. Looks likes there’s a run at Marybyrnong which we might check out.

Good one, not been over there but think it’s around a lake. Enjoy.

So I’ve run a couple of Parkruns and have got my time down to 19:50. Targeting a time in the 17’s, anyone got thoughts on what sort of training I need to be doing to get there?

Firstly well done on cracking 20.

Speed work is my guess. Set yourself a schedule to achieve a 17 minutes 5k, and try running to that schedule. Not sure how keen you are but I think the SA Road Runners have speed group training that would help you. MW may know.

Firstly, I've never cracked the 20 minutes for 5km. Closest I came was during a City Bay when I did the first 5kms in 20:25 and went on to finish it in 50 minutes...but enough about me

If you want to get to 17min 5km, I suggest adding hill work to your runs. But I am no expert to be honest. Like CM said, check out the SARRC website and they might have training plans to help you.

I sit around the 22 min mark for the 5 I'm at the moment. Would love to get faster as well.

I enjoy the Parkruns, great hit out and great people.

My goal is to get down to win 20, fair way off at the moment.

Started doing these at the beginning of the year. My local is Mawson Lakes, but I have shifted to Jubilee whilst the Mawson Lakes course receives a well overdue upgrade.

Began at 28:56 and have worked that down to 24:33. Having never been a great distance runner, I started it in the hope of improving my aerobic capacity for footy, as well as strengthening my core and hamstrings, which have given me no end of grief for about 2-3 years now.

Hoping to see the fruits of my labour when footy starts in about a month. By no means would I consider myself an elite athlete, but having dropped 4kg's since the new year (considerable loss considering I don't carry much fat to begin with), I'm really aiming to get through a full season of footy injury free, which I haven't managed to do since 2010.

Good stuff. For a while up at Mt Barker there was a young fella running most Saturday’s and it didn’t hurt his footy. Got drafted by Freo.

Trying desperately to cling to what little time I have left in my playing career!!

I'm closer to masters than the AFL draft
