44.44% of the way through the Minor Rounds
Table
McLaren 14
Willunga 12
Creek 12
Compass 10
E Bay 10
Victor 8
Myp/Sell 8
Strath 4
Yank 2
Gool/PE 0

This weeks Big games
Creek v McLaren - Huge game for both. McLaren the real surprise packet this season will be looking to consolidate Top spot. Creeks surprised last year by finishing the Minor round 2nd after a few lean years and have probably surprised again this year to date. Have beaten Top sides in Will, Compass, Bays and Victor whilst comfortably losing to lower teams in Myp/ Sell and Strath.
Creeks still rely too much upon their top end players and much will depend on the availability of them. Have supplied 3 or 4 for todays Association match v Southern. Also have lost Blackwell for rest of season having gone to the US for 3 months and new recruit Earl with a broken hand a few weeks back

Compass v Victor - Compass's Premiership defense has been spluttering along so far and a loss would leave them with not a lot of room for error in the 2nd half of the season to finish in a coveted Top 3 spot.
Whilst Victor really need a win to keep them in the mix for a Finals spot. They've certainly show they can match it with the top teams BUT its banking the wins that get you into Finals not just being competitive with honorable losses.

Bays v Gool/PE - Tho Gool/PE have been more competitive in recent weeks, Bays should register a comfortable win here to complete a solid 6 - 3 record and a spot in the Top 5 at the half way mark

Will v Myp/Sell - Willunga will be faves here to win and firmly consolidate a Top 3 spot with a 7 - 2 record. Myp/Sell have shown glimpses of matching it against the higher ranked teams but havent been able to match them for 4 quarters. With a full team theyre dangerous but that doesnt seem to be happening on a regular occurrence. A loss here makes its very tough to see them being a part of finals action.

Yank v Strath - Strath wernt talked up as a Finals contender this year but certainly would have expected to be better than a 2 - 6 record shows. Their 2 wins were over G/PE and the Creeks surprisingly who they actually belted but havent been able to bring that intensity for 4 quarters against the Higher rated teams. Strath should chalk up their 3rd win and mathematically keep themselves in the race but in reality both these teams will be playing for pride in the 2nd half of the season

Regardless of results in Rd 9 the Top 5 will stay the same 5 teams.
Will these same 5 still be there come Round 18? I'm predicting Yes with Victor the only likely chance to sneak in but they need to start winning the Big games

Travelled down to Strathalbyn on the weekend and witnessed a magnificent game of hard tough footy played at a very high standard on a quality deck, but to the Strathalbyn Football Club what were you guys thinking that there were only going to be a couple of 100 people there no hot food at the canteen before qtr time and same with the bbq stand and canteen closed not long after, maybe time to share this game around with the other clubs if this is going to happen wonder if the league has anything to say about it I would presume they would have been very embarrassed about it.

Strath might have thought it was this weekend. I’m still waiting for our team to be announced. Any idea who has been selected?

With several slightly surprising results from Round 9 (The margins being the surprise more than anything) the Ladder at the half way mark of the season probably sees the Premiership race as open as its been for many a year and ensures there will be at least several crucial matches every weekend right up to the Finals.
FWIW i think the current Top 5 will remain as is until the Finals start and its perfectly feasible that ALL those 5 teams could take turns in being considered Premiership favorites along the way.
McLaren have had 2 resounding reality checks in the past 3 matches after having a dream start to the season but still remain in Pole position for a vital Top 3 finish
Any doubts about Langhorne Creek being a genuine contender were dispelled on the weekend with a comprehensive victory over Mclaren to sit 2nd on the table by % only.
Mt Compass , Willunga and E Bay fill 3rd to 5th spots separated by % only and only 1 win off Top with a 6 & 3 W/L record. All 3 have been a bit inconsistent which they will need to overcome to snare a top 3 spot.
Fair to say that injuries and unavailability have and will have a big say as to teams fortunes as its such a tight comp.
Of the outside "The Five" teams, Myp/Sellicks have kept their season alive with a Big win over Willunga to turn at the half way mark with a commendable 5 & 4 record which most times would see them in the 5 but with Gool/Pe , Yank and a lesser extent Strath failing to win hardly any games, a finals competing mark is higher than usual and as a result sees the Mudlarks still a win and considerable % outside of the Five which will be a tough ask to bridge over the coming 9 weeks tho not impossible.
Victor have certainly been around the mark this season but really needed to beat Compass Saturday to stay in touch but failed badly and being 2 wins and % out of the Five, Finals appear very unlikely this season.
Of the others , Strath whilst they wont be playing Finals still have the ability to shape it as they did in the 2nd half last year. They are dangerous when the have their full compliment as they showed when towelling up the Creeks earlier in the season.
Yank and Goolwa/PE copped some hidings earlier in the season but have showed signs of being more competitive recently and both will hope to continue that trend over the next 9 rounds.

A couple of Thrillers were the highlight of Round 10 along with a few blowout results

Willunga got over E Bay by 4 points in an expected toss of the coin game.

Victor and Creek had a DRAW After the Creek got out to a 4 goal lead in the 2nd term, Victor certainly looked the better team for the rest of the game but just couldnt put the Hawks away who responded late in the game to draw level. Victor had a chance to win it in the last 10 seconds but the ball slid off the boot just wide of the point post and OOTF.
Victors performance certainly showed they will cause headaches for other teams over the last 8 rounds and tho not the exact result either team were looking for the 1 point for each team could still be crucial come Round 18 although Victor still have a tall order ahead to challenge for the 5

Compass accounted for Gool / PE as expected by 71 points

McLaren responded to their drubbing last week by taking their anger out on Yankalilla to the tune of 139 points to further increase their % which could play a major factor in finishing top

Myp / Sell continued on from where they left off last week to make their intentions clear that they are a serious player for a Finals spot by belting Strath by 69 points.

3 MASSIVE games next week as there will be most weeks which will further shape the Top 5 contenders
Creek v Willunga
Compass v McLaren
Myp/Sell v Victor

Whilst E Bay should account for Strath and Gool/PE and Yank may well both have their last genuine chance for a win this season by playing each other

Was a really good game hey JJ. Victor again showed they can match it with the top sides but just can't get over the line. After not being in the hunt at all against compass, 5 ins certainly made a big difference. Being 7pts up with 3 mins to go you would hope to win but again lacked the polish to do so. Still I was impressed by their intensity and will to stay in the game after being 9 goals to 5 down against a side with some real class on the park.

Yes, it was hard to believe that, that Victor side could only kick 2 goals against Compass. Made sense when told they had 5 - 6 Ins.
Free flowing game where both teams were punished for turnovers.
From what ive seen that depending on Ins & Outs, theres not a real lot between the top 7 teams on any one day and thats leaving out Strath who hammered the Creeks earlier in the season.

Round 11
No particular upsets but by geeeez the margins certainly were

E Bay had an expected win over Strath , the margin of 26 points could have been a lot more considering the 16 more scoring shots they had.
The consolidates E Bay in the 5

Yank pretty much ensured G/PE winning the Spoon and probably a winless season by thumping them by 106 points which equates to a remarkable 245 point turnaround by the Tigers after their 139 point drubbing last week to McLaren

Early season trendsetters McLaren would have been looking to make a statement against Compass after several poor performances in the last month to Willunga and Creeks whilst Compass were looking to avenge their Rd 2 loss to the Eagles to consolidate a Top 3 spot.
Half time MC 8 - 6 to McLaren 0 - 1
When was the last time if ever has a Top of the table team this far into the season only scored a solitary Behind to half time?
McLaren responded in the 2nd half to reduce the margin to 40 points but there are worrying signs for them as to their scoring potential against the better sides having scored totals of only 5, 3 and 6 goals in recent times against Will, Creeks and MC

Creeks maintained their unbeaten record on their home ground this season with a surprisingly complete demolition of Willunga to the tune of 98 points  On that performance and of 2 weeks ago against Myp/Sellicks, serious questions have been raised as to Willungas credibility as a flag contender or even maybe a Finals contender although they still have basically a 2 game buffer due to their % advantage over Myp/Sell.
For the Hawks, it was a great response to their Draw last week and the most pleasing aspect for coach Godwin would have been the contribution made by their lesser known younger players who really stepped up after being brushed aside by Victor last week. Improvement in that area is the key for the Creeks to be a genuine contender this season compared to last year where they were caught short in the finals in that department. As a result of Mclaren losing, Creeks have now taken over Top spot by a single point and are looking good for Top 3 spot.

The Final game was the crucial Myp/Sell v Victor clash. A win for Myp/Sell and they are right on the doorstep of the 5 and Victor would be history.
Half time Myp/Sell 7 - 6 to VH 5 - 9
What happened in the 2nd half would have to have been seen to be believed Victor kicked 18 goals to 4
WTF ??? How does that happen?
Just unbelievable stuff. Did Myp/ Sell just chuck the towel in ? Or were Victor just that good?
The result keeps Victors season alive whilst Myp/Sell are still a chance for sure but their confidence certainly would have taken a hit with that result.

I left the game just after 1/2 time with the Mudlarks in front. They were the better team in he first half and I thought they would prevail. How wrong could I be?

Stop trolling LGIL, yes some clubs are having an off year but it's not consistent like the SFL. The GSFL certainly wont sit on its hands and do nothing like the SFL did. How many clubs disbanded in the last few years to join other leagues because the SFL was disfunctional? Morphetville Park, Edwardstown, Brighton, OSB, Marion? Missing any?
