The week before the birth she had a stretch and sweep.

We were in the rugby change rooms before the game a couple of days after, 4 of our players are doctors, 2 are head wine makers in the Barossa and 1 is in a government job.

They were genuinely asking about the birth etc, it was mentioned that a stretch and sweep had been done to try and speed up the process. Now while no one referred to my partners exact encounter there was ‘locker room talk’ around how a stretch and sweep would be done, how much stretch is done etc etc while I and the doctors in the team educated them on the facts about the process was.

No one took offence to this including my partners dad who is the head coach, in fact when I told the partner about a couple of the jokes she genuinely laughed (maybe that is just her Northern Irish sense of humour) she added further jokes about the procedure (Expressing her disappointment Hugh Jackman most certainly wasn’t her doctor) Just as we also joked about me going to get the snip and all possibles during and after the procedure.

Now while I don’t agree with what Hall said on public radio and i can understand why he was sacked I think his biggest crime is misjudgement of his time and place rather than a deliberate personal attack on the Montagna’s or women in general.

It was in a "locker room"? Well then, open slather.

While it was in the locker room I tend to be of thought the term 'locker room' refers to inner sanctum of friends. Well that's how I use it anyway.

Some are clear on their thoughts, the comments are unacceptable and we should move beyond that sort of talk.

Others are clear on their thoughts, too, the comments are unacceptable unless you're in a locker room or around a fire with your mates.

Are you saying you have never had 'slightly inappropriate' jokes with your mates or inner friends.

You will probably have a heart attack when you hear that our rugby team has 'Black Steve' & 'White Steve'. In fact it was black steve gave himself the nickname.

Black Steve- 'Hi guys you mind If I have a run with you'

Team 'yeah mate no probs, whats your name'

Black Steve- ' Its Steve but I see you have another Steve so call me Black Steve'

Team' You Sure'

Black Steve- 'Yeah now you Black Steve and White Steve'

Team- 'welcome Black Steve'

Now don't get to alarmed Black Steve and White Steve have stayed at the club for over 5 years and funnily enough were best men at each others weddings in the last year.

We also don't call them by those nicknames on game day or in the club rooms but purely on the training track and in the changerooms.

Black Steve is an anesthetist and White Steve is a potato farmer.

Absolutely I have and absolutely people around me have and I don't particularly take offence at things easily, quite the opposite in fact, but here in 2018 it's a different world, what was once acceptable in the most candid ( read locker room ) of situations isn't ( in the main ) anymore. But, it's not about me anymore, it's about the person on the "end" of the joke, or the race, or the gender, or the gender neutral.

I'm being trained, slowly, I still use terms that people might fight offensive in my own mind at times but I don't blurt them out like I once did.

The world is changing mate and I'm struggling to keep up, I'm a 42 year old western suburbs dinosaur with a wharfie back ground but now I see things differently than I used to. My kids are 21 and nearly 18 and we're extremely close, I think they've given me some perspective from the generation driving this change and I'm on board with it.

That's how I see it, anyway.

At the end of the day someone, somewhere will be offended by what you say no matter what or how you say it.
You can’t please everyone either in today’s society.

We do have to change and be mindful of other people’s feelings more but gee some people need to harden the eff up still.
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.
