$700k for 5 years. LOL. You blokes have lost your marbles if true.

Best wishes to Jared, should he accept it.

Instead of Spargo visiting Melbourne to sound out North's list manager for a "chat", What he, and the rest of us should be doing, is sounding out Polec's manager to negotiate our contracts at work!

Serious question, would be interested to see what people think Polec is worth? He get's pilloried a lot for a soft appearance, but imho he's a very dangerous player with a (usually) lethal leg.

I would have thought in the current climate he'd be worth about $600k per season, so paying a little overs to prise him away I wouldn't have thought $700k a stupid offer if a club is into him?

It's a great question, JK. I reckon the overs offer could have a fair bit to do with player managers pitching the proposed rule changes to clubs, highlighting the impact that players of the Gaff/Polec/Kelly/Smith/Whitfield mould will potentially have on the game moving forward.

If the game implements zone structures to minimise congestion, it is going to allow outside users with good foot skills to find space to deliver the footy cleanly. if you can add strong aerobic capacity to your skill set and possess the ability to cover 15 kms+ a game at high intensity to get to the next contest and receive to deliver inside 50 to a one on one contest, you will be a sighly sought after commodity, and therefore command these sorts of contracts.

Re. Polec's offer, I am by no means an expert, but even $600k would be a bit much IMO. He isn't an elite runner and doesn't possess an opposite side, so his game is still fairly limited for mine.

While Im not a huge fan I can see why North are looking at him, we have plenty of inside grunt and need some outside speed, so from a need perspective I can understand us paying "overs" to cover this.

We have the forwards and backs, rucks plus the inside mids, outside run is our clear need.

For the 3 good games he plays a year he is not worth $700k.
Half that maybe.

Port can't afford to lose him, they aren't blessed with plenty of outside run.

I guess that’s the thing that determines players worth these days.
Clubs are willing to pay overs if they need your type of player.

To Port or North he’s probably worth a lot more than to GWS or Richmond who have several players like him.

daysofourlives wrote:Port mustve just got Polec's signature. The traditional lead in to the announcment has just begun with Sam Maclure declaring that the Roos have made a massive multi year offer of 700k plus.

As Brownie said on talking footy, Sam McClure just makes stuff up. Stung him too. Funny to watch.
There's no way he's worth that amount!
