$5 on Ladbrokes, were $8 before beating the Eagles. If Sturt make the big one they win it imho, and unless they suffer a lousy run with injury, I reckon they make it.

Go back two weeks and North were the latest miracle. Don't count them out.
Norwood to take the flag IMHO. 4 flags in 8 years, apart from when they were first formed, had Norwood ever had a more successful era?
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

If you remove the three years without competition due to WWII, Norwood won four of seven flags on offer between 1941 to 1950 and were runner's up once.

They won four in eight between 1922 and 1929 and were runner's up once.

Thanks Scott.
I think I made a mistake with the original post. If Norwood win it this year, it would be 4 in 7. They won 3 in a row, then it was West, then Sturt 2 years in a row, so this year would be 4 in 7.

Excitingly (for those who struggle to think of a better charity than Sportsbet) you can still place a bet on Port Adelaide winning the SANFL flag this year.

Oddly, after one weekend where results of the games involving the top 3 were roughly in line with expectations, the bookies have now scotched the idea of a Norwood-Eagles GF and decided that it's Norwood-Sturt all the way. The non-write-your-own-ticket options for the flag are:

Norwood $2.50
Sturt $3.50
Eagles $4.50
North Adelaide $7.00
South Adelaide $10.00.

So finals opponents are all set with 1 round to go. After the year they have had it would be a bit rough for North to exit in the first week but is quite on the cards IMO

The first week of the finals games is set now, next week is a waste of time, might see a lot of players rested.

Elim Final
North v South

Qual Final
Eagles v Sturt

Bye: Norwood

North have a great record against South in finals, South are well and truly due.
Sturt should win against the Eagles, Adelaide Oval wont suit the Eagles.

One for the history buffs (e.g. spelly): when was the last time there was a final round that didn’t matter at all, in terms of who made the finals, who was minor premier and who played whom in finals week 1? For added bonus boredom, even the wooden spooner (and the 2nd-bottom team) is set.

I don’t remember it happening too often.

Cant remember South playing North in a Final... ,, Not sure I'd be so keen to dismiss Souths chances in the Finals. So far they have defeated every side in the Finals bar Norwood,(play them for the 2nd time this year next Sunday).... including beating North twice-easily on both occasions.

2006 the last time. Not sure prior to that..

South should start favorites v North, not that it means anything.

Not sure if B+W's eyeroll is coz he doesn't want, or pretending not to, remember, but North and South played in the 91 second semi when South were minor premiers and got knocked straight out. Seem to recall it mentioned on here the GF that year was between the two lowest ranking teams, 3 v 5 at end of minor round.

Also remember being at an Elimination final which must have been around 83 and North kicked a heap of goals in the third quarter, and South did in the last but never threatened

Sturt beat North in the 1st semi
Cops threatened to kick me out of the 1st semi as I was throwing cut up newspaper in the air, what a rebel I was at the age of 12.
