I tried to watch it all but I fell asleep!

He made it sound like it was the last play of the game

Well it certainly had a major impact. One of the best pressers I have seen. Would have been criticised if he didn't say anything & now he is copping it for speaking up and telling the AFL how it is. Can't win

I’m still yet to see any definitive footage that it hit the post.

Two people I know, one Port and one Crow supporter, both who sit behind that post and both had no idea if it did or didn’t

I haven't either and I don't know if it did or not. I am just backing what Jenkins has said which is backed up by what he mouthed during the celebrations after the goal that it hit the post. In the end, we shouldn't even be having this discussion as there should be sufficient technology at every ground that prevents this and that is what Ken arked up about during his presser. No point having this in place if we are not 'All In' with the technology.

I agree. Someone mentioned it yesterday (Kornes or Lloyd), why don't they have it like the big bash that the goal post lights up if it hits it or something along those lines.. Might look silly for the obvious posters, but one's in this case where it can have an affect on the game would be perfect

Dude at work has always said if the ball hits the post and goes in the goal area it should be a goal, we are the only sport that doesn't play like that.

Rebounds back into play or goes through the point area, then it's a behind.

Actually quite ironic, was talking about this at local footy Sat morning and that it should be like that as well!

What happens if a player bumps the post and the post lights up?

I think the idea is for above the padding contact.

It’s kind of ridiculous that we don’t have this already.

What downside is there? It makes goal umpiring decisions easier, potentially increases excitement given the scramble of the ball hits the post and comes back in, etc

Anything that affects the historical scoring of games will not be changed.
Its worked for over 100 years not sure why its a problem now

Correct. Can't have a situation where a team loses a final, or worse, that they would have won in any other year because hitting the post is now a goal or no score.

The fact that in other sports they play on when the ball hits the post is irrelevant. In Aussie Rules, if the ball hits the goalpost, it's a behind. We can change any number of rules, possibly for the benefit of the game, but at what point does it become a different game?

I'm continually bemused by the constant calls for rule changes based on one incident. There were probably several thousand games of senior footy played this weekend. In over 99% of them this rule wasn't a problem. Occasionally the goal umpire will screw up, as it appears they did on the weekend. However even good umpires will occasionally make mistakes. We could scrap the holding the ball rule because the umpire will occasionally miss a player getting a toe on the ball. We could scrap the 15m rule because occasionally the umpire will ping a player for running 14.9m, etc. Or we could just accept that there is going to be the odd contentious call.

Of course if they're going to have a decision review system then they should probably have more camera angles in place, but even then they'd probably only pick up the howlers.

But it seems to me that after 150 years of footy, we should think long and hard before we change the rules. These decisions should not be made as a reaction to one incident.

It’s hardly the first ball to touch the post and affect a game.

Reckon there was one in a GF recently, maybe hawthorn Sydney if memory serves.

Tom Hawkins hit the post against the Saints in 2009 and was credited a goal. The vision was clear and would have been awarded a point under the current review system.

Social media over the last 36 hours...

- Injunction needed, reverse the decision and give us the 4 pts
- split the 4 points, only fair
- it didn't even hit the post, it went through for a behind not a goal
- AFL is corrupt
- Crows cheated
