They fluffed it up from the start by calling it the AFL, it is and always will be just an expansion of the VFL, when you have 10 clubs from one state and 2 each from the other competing states it is always going to make it hard to find the right balance with fixtures, financial aid, drafts or zones, should the balance be equal anyway?

Clubs such as Hawthorn have had sustained success from making the right decisions at the top, they deserve the same concession's as Carlton or St. Kilda who continually make a mess internally and then we have the basket case in Gold Coast who at one stage were everyone's second favourite side and everyone wanted to see them win a few games but now they are a club that's just taking the piss and no one wants to stay, just like no one wants to go and watch them play.

Admiration must go the way of Richmond, limited success for some time, kept at it, had faith within their own 4 walls and wullah, a premiership, Kangaroo's in a similar ilk now as was the Bulldogs before them.

Frustrating? Sure is, but it's either that or we have the same 3 or 4 clubs vying for the premiership every year. I now what I'd rather.

If they deserve it, what's wrong with that?

Nope, prop up the underachiever.

I think the only thing the EPL needs is a salary cap.

I like the promotion/relegation system.

So implementing a system to even things up is a good idea?

Nothing wrong with it but you'd rather poorly run clubs get every concession under the sun as a reward for their mismanagement?

I don't think that would be the case in the AFL. Unlike the EPL and NBA etc there is too many other factors that effect results.

Due to the physical nature injuries play a major part in a teams success in the AFL. Unlike the EPL and NBA where teams can purchase players during the season therefore replacing any injured players.

Suspensions are much more common in the AFL meaning teams can be impacted week to week by what I would call minor indiscretions.

Individual games can be affect by some factors that aren't relevant in other sports. AFL more than any other sport is affected by weather conditions and can change the outcome of a game dramatically.

Finals. Not many other sports have 1 off finals. You can be top all year but fail to perform on that one day and you are gone. Nothing is guaranteed.

The rate the AFL are changing the rules creates tactical swings and round about suiting different sides at different stages.

Did you hate the SANFL when Port were winning flags year in, year out?

The EPL has introduced a fair play rule that only allows clubs to spend a certain percentage of their business income on player wages (it's more in-depth than that but that is simple terms). This is perfect in my opinion as clubs that can run their business side successful still get the advantage of extra spending.

To give every club THE SAME resources to recruit.

Its the same principle when looking at the AFL. The clubs in the EPL with more payroll get an advantage. The clubs in the AFL with consistent high draft picks and help from the league get an advantage.

The difference is, in the EPL, the best run club gets the advantage. In the AFL, the poorly run clubs get the advantage.

Maybe there is reason they don’t watch the Como anymore hence why they are posting in a state of the game thread. They would obviously have a very strong opinion on the state of the game.

So you don't think people who are so disillusioned by the AFL they gave up on it should let you know why?

Just take a stab in the dark, hey?

Maybe its the speed of the game? I know! Lets f**k with the rules to speed it up....

Oh shit...its too fast...

Let's slow it down.

Maybe they don't like the rules being enforced....?

I know!!! Lets not pay "holding the ball" anymore.

You'd rather be ignorant, which isn't surprising to be honest.

Accidentally caught about 10 minutes of Rowe and Bickley yesterday, who were discussing the punching in the game and specifically eradicating it. Rowe was adamant it needs to be driven by the AFLPA, and his reasoning was along the lines of "Who better to control the future direction of our game than those that play it" ... Get F***ed!!! Sick of the power players have these days. Those employed by the AFL (rules of the game committee) and the AFL Commission should be responsible for this, and the players play to the rules put before them. They have far too big a say for my liking and it seems thats only going to happen more and more.

Thankfully Bickley felt similarly.
