I can’t stand him and would have delisted him years ago but he did have a good year by Carlton standards.
And we don’t have many senior players these days to help the younger kids so I’m not totally against it.

Depends if we use the Lobbe/O’Shea/Kerridge standards or the Kernahan/Bradley/Judd standards.

Either way we are ****.

The second 3 would be a better option than the first 3 in 2019. ;)

I often think of players from different eras of who would make it in today’s game........ Craig Bradley is one of the first who springs to mind.
His pace, run and carry would be still be elite today.

F me.......

Our list is a shambles.

We've got two over 30's in our half back line - Thomas and Simpson.

Docherty is coming back from injury and McReadie also coming back from injury and both should slot into the half back line. Byrne is already on the other flank and rebounds well. I only hope if McReadie and Byrne are fit, then they displace Thomas. Docherty was supposed to run through the middle this year but I wonder if those plans will be shortlived and he goes back in 2019.

The club has obviously taken the stance that both O'Shea and Mullett don't offer as much as a 31yo with dodgy ankles. Fairy nuff.

Rowe is needed as backup. Surprised Casboult has lasted as well as Kerridge.

Eric Mackenzie has retired. 2014 Club Champ. Never forget that act of selflessness to smash himself into the post to stop Port scoring a point in last years elim final. Apparently has stress fractures in his big toes and they wont heal. May need to get the fused. What a way to finish ur career.

Love the way the media are hanging it on Ablett

Gaz- 295 kicks @ 15.5, 256 Handballs @ 13.5, 551 Disposals @29, 72 Tackles and 104.2 Ave Rating points

Higgins- 281 kicks @ 14.1, 267 Handballs @ 13.4, 548 Disposals @ 27.4, 58 Tackles and 93.9 Ave Rating points

Yet Shaun Higgins was 'outstanding this year' 'Will win the NMFC best and fairest by the length of the straight' and was named in the AA team, and Gaz was terrible, selfish blah blah blah.

Nothing against Higgins, I actually like him I just used him as a reference that the AFL media are so quick to slam the champions of the game and questioning should he play on.
you've gota keep on keep'n on .........

You know Carey it’s how you use the ball not just the number of possessions. Lots of dinky kicks and handballs and little pressure/tackles

What stood out for me in the final last week - he got a lot of possessions by standing next to the player who got the free kick/mark and then receiving the handball and kicking. Never really looked dangerous.

He’s been a great footballer but IMO he’s not one of the all time greats.

Yep, I agree, imagine if he didn't go to the Gold Coast? Look at what he had to do there as a one man band.

I think Gaz is being remembered for his 2018 form rather than the body of work over the years. If I were in Geelong's shoes, I would've politely said "no" to bringing him back because of their squad. They'd just moved on Bartel, Johnson, Chapman etc and I saw this as a step backward, however he's an out and out champ. I don't think he was the game changer his dad was, but nonetheless brilliant in his own right.
