Grand Final Day - Your Plans

Postby Corona Man » Mon Sep 24, 2018 11:52 am

Interested to know what people get up to on GF Day.

For many years we used to have a few people over to our house in the Adelaide Hills - BBQ, Beers, kick the footy at half time with the kids, throw in some tipping comps good stuff. 2008, 2013, 2014 & 2015 were particularly enjoyable.

Now moving East has seen that come to an end. Last year I joined a group of people I barely knew in a pub near Richmond, and had a great day, but it wasn't quit the same.

This year, now the Mrs & Daughter have come over to Melb, thought it would be good for them to soak up the experience a bit. So I booked a table at the Terminus Hotel in Richmond. Expecting that the Tigers would be in the GF. Bugger, added that daughter now has a work shift on Saturday (late notice) don't think I can be stuffed getting on the train etc. Maybe just a BBQ at home (the weather sounds awful) and a few beers.

On a side note, work have a couple of our Yanks colleagues over here at the moment, if they are at a loose end on Saturday I may invite them over.... be interesting to get there take on our game.

What do you other blokes get up to?

I got a stocktake at work at 7am LOL.

Step-son has a concert and his gig is around 6:30pm and then him and the wife are driving straight to Mildura from there.

I'll get dropped off at the Reepham early afternoon and can't see myself making it to the concert for obvious reasons, the wife didn't fully understand initially but came round.

I used to have a couple of mates that we placed $30 worth of footy bets on each weekend and we'd use all the winnings for a massive GF day, had upwards of $2000 once.

In Port Vincent every October long weekend with another family.

Wake up early, try and get some squid off the pier on the early morning tide. Go back to the house and either cook that up with the bacon and eggs on the BBQ or just the bacon and eggs. Spend the morning on the race guide working out where I'm losing my money that day.

Usually head to the Ventnor at about 12 ish, watch some early races and grab a spot at the bar. The blokes only at this stage.

Then, just on game time the girls come and join us for the first half so we see the first goal kicker and see if any of us jagged the coin there.

Half time head back to the house for the second half and usually, drunken, repeat the squid hunting on the evening tide before the BBQ fires up again.

All good my end mate!

Stop the sledges and people might want to be near you more often.

PS - Say no to the ice you'll get offered or the cousins hand in marriage.

Camping at an unpowered site this year. Luckily someone is bringing some power packs and a 42 inch* screen for the day!

I'll be helping a mate move house on Grand Final morning (still better than listing to Derm & co. wax lyrical about the game all morning with a half a dozen players kicking torps across the yarra thrown in for good measure).

I'll watch the game at a mates place with a half a dozen or so of my premiership team mates from this season, where we will have another excuse to extend the celebrations
