Baffles me you can't reinstate a card with today's technology...

Few months ago got pretty drunk, and lost my wallet, cancelled all my cards and than my step dad found my wallet in the back yard, the afternoon i cancelled it

not a proud moment

If you suspect for even a moment that your card's security has been compromised why wouldn't you cancel it?

Sure, it's a bit of a pain in the arse when you get people calling or receive emails to advise a payment was declined as you hadn't updated the details but surely it's a small price to pay for keeping your money secure.

I couldn't withdraw from an ATM about 4 weeks ago, card was blocked. ( This is why I ask Pseudo if it is Bank SA ). Rang the bank, was advised someone in Thailand was trying to take $1 out of my account on the Thursday morning before I tried to take cash out on the Saturday, the bank had blocked my card. While I was on the phone the bloke lifted the block allowing me to take out the cash I needed, he then cancelled the card before the $1 was taken out. Wednesday I had my new card, into the app and activated it, away we go.

Had to ring a couple of places to update the card number and had one call me that I'd forgotten to update. I reckon that's ripping service from the bank.

it also helps now you can do cardless width drawls using your phone.. BankSA security is very good imo...

I had a taxi incident a couple of months ago and it was on a long weekend while the wife was away, I had assumed that my wallet fell down next to the seat in a taxi but the taxi company couldn't get hold of the driver for a couple of days, two of my bank cards I could get a temporary hold on the other two (same bank) was either balls deep or nothing, I too find it astonishing that they can't do this.

Not BankSA.

The peeve really has little to do with the bank, except that I took the advice to cancel the card rather than put a hold on it.

I am more pissed off that:
- an obscure business name on the statement yielded no clue as to the nature of the transaction, and
- I racked my brains for half an hour and could not determine what the hell the charge was for, yet remembered what cost me $30 not 60 seconds after I cancelled the card.

Off to the bank this morning to stuff my wallet with cash, for I shall be spending the weekend without my preferred paywave card.

Not getting fuel yesterday when I should have and then today when I go past the servo it is up 25c to $1.67

I reckon that's 3 weeks in a row I have missed the jump...

$1.67 - that's just ludicrous.

Luckily I had the patience to wait for 10 mins to get petrol at Costco on Friday for $1.36 ;)

A couple of the new servos on port road (near Woodville road) put their prices up the day after everyone else.

Yesterday I saw the Caltex on Hackney Road at $1.67, this morning I filled up at $1.38

I've never understood the fixation people have on fuel prices. Unless you run your budget* and/or your tank right to the line, what does it matter?

And, if you've got a comeback for me, when was the last time you shopped around for your mortgage or power prices?

The difference between shopping around for power prices, and filling a tank of petrol is I HAVE to fill up each fortnight. I don't have to shop around for power.

Given I have to fill up the tank anyway, it makes sense to do it at the bottom of the cycle rather than at the top.

$0.20 / l, on 50l every fortnight = $260 at the end of the year.

Sure, not a lot to write home about, but given it was no extra work, just changing WHEN the work is done, it makes sense to try and get it right.

I think it's a little moral victory that most people have, they beat the man.

Having said that, I checked on petrol spy yesterday and seen it was on the up so I left work and went to Costco to fill up, I had run it a bit low so it was worth it for me as I have to drive to Port Elliot Saturday, then go pick my son up from cricket on Sunday at Kensington then return to Port Elliot from there.

Being on the road for work most days assists me in predicting the cycle. For a V6 ute, it burns on average 2L more per 100km than my previous car so I normally don't let the tank get below half.

As work provides me with a car I dont have to be as vigilant with that one and its diesel anyway so get better mileage...

I couldn’t be arsed worrying about saving a few cent per litre.
I know people who spend an hour and probably 5 litres of fuel driving around to look for cheaper petrol.
Waste of time.

One phone call to a power provider might save you more than $260 a year.

A mortgage broker and some paper work might save you thousands.

That's my point, sweating the small things when we don't look into the big things seems, well, silly.

Smart mother ****, yeah? ;)

I've changed mortgage holders 3 times in 6 years getting the best rate.

Our most recent move saved us nearly $4000 per year.

How'd you work that out or am I missing the sarcasm?

I'd be the last person ever to go to Costco or lineup for fuel. :?

Never lined up for fuel in my life and just go to the closest servo when I'm near empty. Half the people that lineup spend more $ waiting than they save! Saw enough of that growing up near the old Skorpos servo on Marion Rd. Used to shit me as it was my closest servo.

And don't get me started on morons that lineup on roads creating traffic inconveniences.

I have exactly the same philosphy Booney has, life's too short and time is too valuable!

PS Having said that, I've spent less than $10 in fuel for my scooter this year, wish I could say the same about my car!

PPS Always drink Pale when I can even if its twice the price of swill like West End or Superdry.

^ this.

I habitually put $50 in the tank whenever it runs low. As a consequence, the amount of petrol I buy is inversely proportional to the price. 8)
