Historical SAFA info /SAAFL info

Postby Footy Chick » Mon Oct 08, 2018 11:08 am

To anyone that's involved in an ex-SAFA club

I've stumbled upon a heap of old Footy Times papers from 1990-1992, which had full page write ups on the SAFA comp at the time.

To the best of my knowledge, no SAFA records exist for whatever reason, so If anyone would like me to search for anything for their clubs own historical records, let me know and I'll see if I can find anything for you,
I've already pulled some ripper photos of old Payneham boys out of it  (oh, the mullets! )

This also applies to any SAAFL clubs that might be looking for info from this period.

edit* - I think there may be a mention of a current SA Footy user in the article ;)

Is the Mitchell Park Craig Mcrae pre AFL premiership player Craig McRae?

Good find.

No idea @Morell may know... given that paper is from 1991, it's actually possible I suppose, he would've only been around 18 at the time.

awesome, throughout the 1960s some amatuer footballer newsletters were donated to state library and they were super helpful 60 years later, food for thought ;)

Even though I forgot I'd had them, Im not sure I can part with them now.

Admittedly, there are some that have been hacked at - and have bits missing, which would've been any port player posters (mainly Trigger) or anything to do with Brodie Atkinson

Most are in bloody good condition though, for their age.

no one can borrow them from the library, you gotta go into a sealed room with gloves on and cant leave the room with them, theyll still be yours for next 500 years :D

Greek camden won SAAFL division 1 undefeated in 1990 then won it again in 1991

Henley District won SAFA div 1 in 92 & 93

the 2 merged in 1994 - aka Henley Greek SAAFL div 1

Phos merged with Camden or something

Nothing specific from memory bar some of the normal weekly game write ups.

Most of the feature stories tend to come from the top divs (of course)

For example, this was from the A3 write up from 25/07/1991 - probably a bad example because BK got flogged so not much of a mention

Add any SAFA stories , what year was this one. Thinking 91 or 92? Played at the Bulls between 89-97. Darren Murphy I would say it should be Damian Murphy

Hi Bulldogs, this particular one was July 1991. Found a couple of beautiful photos of the current coach with one hell of a mullet, he put Jon Bon Jovi to shame!

THere's a bit of Pooraka stuff in these too...

On the right hand side of that picture FC, is the Hectorville write up (partly obscured). I was at the club at the time so I'd be keen to see that if you have a chance - thankyou!
