Trade + Draft Period 2018

Talk on the national game

"If Lukosius and Rankine end up going to Gold Coast, we're probably pretty happy to try to get them back in a few years' time," Cripps said.

"It's interesting, because then it just becomes a two-horse race between us and the Crows, as opposed to a Victorian kid that wants to come back home, who has potentially got 10 options.

"That's part of the discussion and strategy, but right at the minute, we're really comfortable with pick six."

"We're happy with any of the Victorian boys. We're going to back ourselves in," Cripps said.

"It's quite interesting at the moment because we've traditionally been really strong with retention, particularly with Victorian guys.

"We've actually got a little bit of a challenge at the moment, losing some South Australians in Jared Polec and Chad Wingard, which is a little bit unique."

Why would be come out and say that?

Stupid really. I know everyone is thinking that but come on, you can't come out and say it.

Have fun with trading with them in the future.

He didn't just come out with it.

He was on a panel where they were discussing the "go home" factor and he was asked about this current crop of SA talent.

Power defender Jack Hombsch has travelled to the Gold Coast to catch up with former teammate and Suns forward Aaron Young. Hombsch not meeting with the Suns at this stage and wants to stay at Port Adelaide. Could change if Steven May leaves the Suns

Scully, former #1 pick, 26 years old, 152 games, he can't be traded for pick 53 to Hawthorn, surely?

How can the AFL sign that off as legit?

How do they measure his affect on a team behind closed doors.

For all we know he could be a poison which is why a club would let him go for a packet of chips.

Clearly they don't, how could they? What they do is over see the trades to make sure there's no scull(y) duggery.

A #1 pick who is on $1m a year in exchange for pick 53, regardless of injury concerns ( of which there can't be many as the Hawks are offering him a 4 year deal! ) doesn't sit well.

Is this the second club to be willing to let him go.

Flags concerns to me that there is a reason for it, if anything the number pick he was sets of bigger flags. If he was a second strike player and the AFL knew would they then understand why a club would release him so cheaply.

I’m sure the AFL would have enquired as to why they are letting him go.

Maybe the club gave some solid financial planning in regards to the freed up salary and potential tactic with that.

He took a 6 year $6m deal from GWS when they started up. He's cited personal reasons for wanting to go back to Victoria and that has to be respected.

He badly broke an ankle early this year ( that's for @HH3 who doesn't watch AFL football ) and there's reports it's not come along very well, but, Hawthorn has reportedly offered him a 4 year deal after putting him through a medical, the Hawks don't make mistakes like that.

I get what your saying but I just think the rule allowing AFL to block trades would be very hard to put into affect especially if both clubs want the trade.

So many other factors than what we see on the surface.
