Likely both late first rounders, but yeah you’re right, given Beams’ age and Brisbane’s impending window it’s probably not as bad as I first thought

What’s the deal?

I haven’t seen anything on this.

Dayne Beams is a Collingwood player again!

Pies get: Beams & Picks 41, 44

Lions get: Pick 18, 56 & 2019 Future 1st round

Don’t think the Bears stood their ground enough there, but I guess Collingwood didn’t have much else to give, and most clubs understandably don’t wanna keep a bloke that’s declared they want out.

They just wanted him out of the club, loose cannon!

Strong rumours are that his contract was heavily front loaded and once he went past that coin that he started losing interest. Did he break 2 contracts to end up at the same location or just the 1?

Well done by Beams, pity Wingard wasnt able to project the same image. Still think we jumped to early today, couldve hung on to the point where Port started to think they may have to keep him and the consequernces of that

Really only cost us next year's first rounder, as we would have had to likely use #18 to match a bid on Quaynor. We got enough picks back to still be able to match regardless now.

This is one I don’t get. Why would Sydney get rid of him but bring in Thurlow?

Me too. But I'm happy that its a done deal.

Hard to please, Daisy. You got a ready made 25 year old dual AA goalkicker who can play midfield in exchange for an unknown draftee and a young kid who has had a bad run with injuries. Think about it again.

I'm happy with the trade period for us. Newman to assist back and be a longer term replacement for Simpson. Fasolo, shorter term replacement whilst our forwards develop. Setterfield, if he can get his knee right, he'll assist us greatly in the midfield. Rated more highly than Kennedy by GWS and finally McGovern. He'll help us immensely. Great pair of hands and a great field kick. He can only assist our kids up forward and can swing back if need be.

Overall, we kept pick 1 and gave away two second round picks for the four players - with a few third and fourth rounders which matter little.

Although, in saying that I wouldn't have minded going after Jordan Roughead and or Collyer for basically nothing!

Welcome back Beamsy.

Pretty happy with our draft trades.
Can still get Kelly and Quaynor.
Melbourne big winners IMO!

Just had a quick glance at the live draft pick list and found it interesting that North's first pick is a third round pick at 42 but then they have 5 more picks in the third round (47,48,49,55,58)...

Funny mob at North...

They've got a couple father son selections they can go after in Crocker and Scott, so are accumulating draft points for these I'd say

Plus an academy player in Thomas who is better than the F/S picks. They did pretty well during trade week

i didn't write this, its from a swans group (below the line)... After initially being frustrated and then thinking we don't need any big fish yet, considering our list is still decent.
Next year though with more salary cap space freed up by us (McVeigh, Grundy and maybe Jack), there are plenty of names coming off contract to potentially have a go at getting.

In saying that, I still do think that this trade period could have been better for us than it has turned out.

-----------------------

Okay, I was very critical of how our trade period has gone, but the events of the past hour have slightly changed that in regards to drafting Blakey.
Essendon, North Melbourne and Brisbane were our biggest threats to getting Blakey. Essendon and North have no first rounders, with the later having Tarryn Thomas and Bailey Scott to get. Brisbane have Pick 18 due to the Beams deal.
With a bit of luck, Blakey could fall to 18 and have Brisbane select him. 985 points is what that pick is worth, with only 788 points required after the 20% discount.
Our picks are 26,33,38,39,40 and 88. 39 and 40 will be enough to get him, but we also keep 26,33 and 38 to use in the draft. Now, I'm not saying this is a certainty but depending how things go we may have pulled off a gamble.
Clarke and Thurlow could prove to be astute acquisitions, but I think given what had been said by Longmire, this trade period has been a bit of a let-down in regards to targetted players.
"Fellas, it’s OK to be in pain. It’s OK to hurt. It’s OK to be sad. It’s no longer OK to suffer in silence."
