I see young Hassold still peeling off the tons up there mate

Hell like the fact you referred to him as young. But he batted beautifully on Saturday in partnership with Shaun. Cally had a really good first 10-15 overs but was tough going for their bowlers once Shaun really got going.
I think we are around the same age. Played rep cricket with him and against him many years ago.

I can still remember a rep game we played at Balhannah in 92/93 and he effortlessly hoiked one over the old scoreboard there.

Do you mean the old scoreboard on the road side of the oval. I thought that was gone long before 92/93.
Are they using the new digital scoreboard for cricket there.[/quote]Nah. The one above the coaches box.

Interesting discussion here.

Got me thinking about some of the bigger "tonks" I had seen in hills cricket over my time. I won't name the batters, just the ovals & where the cherry ended up.

Mt Torrens Oval - Into the Tennis Courts, actually the furthest one from the oval.

Woodside Oval - Over the clubrooms, onto the bowling green

Nairne Oval - Onto the roof of the clubrooms

Wistow Oval - Onto the roof of the Church

Hahndorf Oval - Into BJ's paddock

Good to see Old Hass, still amongst the runs. I do recall a season 6 to 7 years ago when he was struggling to make a score, just had one of those years I reckon. I know he has become a lot fitter a dropped a few KG's since then.

Feel free to add your own to the above list.

I remember a former Norwood coach hitting a Big Tonk onto or over the church at Wistow
I'm also sure a former Test player whose just swapped clubs (Anyone need a clue? ) has hit numerous Big Tonks in recent seasons. Some hard to describe where they actually landed as they disappeared out of sight. :o

I saw one go onto the golf course off Echunga #1 one day. Cleared the clubrooms, landed on the road behind and bounced out onto the golf course.
When you consider the pitch is offset to the other side it's a massive hit. Thankfully I wasn't bowling.

One I did send down that went a long way was out at trinity on the second oval. Similar thing, landed on Greening Drive and bounced out over Main North Road. haha
Danny Southern telling Plugga he's fat, I'd like to see that!

Yes you are spot on with the player at Wistow.
I am sure Sloon would have hit some big ones at Nairne, but the one I recall is well before his time.

Biggest hit Ive seen was someone putting a ball over the Mt Lofty clubrooms (clearing them!) and into the car park at Heathfield, never seen anyone put a ball on the roof but this one cleared it

Andrew Baker wound back the clock with an elegant 83 but it was Ryan Trafford-Walker with his first tonne in A grade with 112.

One extreme to the other in regards to scores in a couple of games in the B grade on the weekend.

Nairne racked up 471 from 40 overs on Nairne #2

and at the other end of the scale, Maccy got rolled for 26 against Bremer/Callington with one bloke taking 7/19

Nairne v Hahndorf
Scenario of one team that should be in A2 grade and the other should be in C Grade
I can see the reasons why both are in B Grade tho Nairne shouldn't be after originally nominating for A2 grade
The draw was all done and at the last second seeked to drop to B Grade. Due to a number stars aligning, they were fortunate to be granted their wish.
Playing on the tiny small Nairne No. 2 Oval exacerbates the margin
Hahndorf amazingly have 4 Senior teams after only having 1 only 2 seasons ago
With 4 teams it makes sense to place 1 in each grade available but obviously the depth in talent and experience isnt there to be competitive across all the grades.

Very well put. Hahndorf's B grade has a lot of younger players just like our A2 side. We have a bit of a lack of players aged 20-25 across all of our grades to be honest. One only has to look at our A grade side with only 3 blokes younger than 30 where the a2 side is nearly the whole side younger than 20.

Our C grade is a mixture of Lads and their Dads which is pretty cool IMO. Judd, Bannister and Knappstein do pretty well in that grade.

I see young Hassold is in the squad for the Under 15 side

If he's anything like the old man he will play a lot of rep cricket

Judd could play A grade on Saturday if his knee wasnt so suspect. The bloke is a gun. He's also an absolute dead set legend and one of the nicest blokes youll ever meet.

Disappointing
Not the easiest pitch to bat on as was slightly rain affected from the week of cold and wet weather but certainly not a valid excuse as Woodside batting 1st battled to 130.

Was almost 30 years to the day that the Creek A Grade posted a score as bad as that.
Nov 19th 1988 - Creeks recovered from 8/14 to be rolled for 31 against Nairne at Nairne.

Such has been the surprising uncertainty of results on a weekly basis this season it would be of no surprise to see the Creeks rebound and hammer Strath next week.

Mid way point of another tightly contested TVCA season..

Rose Park (6-3) Score runs quickly but perhaps still lack bite with ball. If they have a settled line up will be hard to beat
Cambrai (6-3) Slow start before winning 6 straight. Perhaps lack depth of some other sides but are always competitive.
Lenswood (6-3). Fast start before falling into a bit of a hole. Batting not performing at last year’s level
Gumeracha (5-1-3). Stronger side on paper than last season and will challenge for the flag

Paracombe (5-4). Lack a bit of bowling depth currently but should again feature when it matters
Palmer (4-1-4) Heavy reliance on Rathjen with willow but strong bowling depth
Mt Torrens (2-1-6). A final ball victory v Lenswood the highlight in a disappointing season to date
Birdwood (0-1-8). Fell 4 runs short v Mt Torrens but other than that another long season for the Bulls.

Gumeracha and Paracombe the early stands outs in the B Grade, while if Eden Valley can select their strongest team they will challenge. Cambrai, Palmer and Lenswood fighting for 4th but will just make up the numbers.
SAFC- 60 years...
StKFC- 58 years..
