There's none smashing down the door, SOK would still probably be NIL, I don't think Sydney is as spin friendly as it used to be, I think Head would be as useful there as anyone else that we have going around.

Do you think the Australian bowlers of today get it worse than the Australian bowlers of the 90's and early 2000's?

I'm loving seeing a series not dominate by the bat for a change.

Every team has been bowled out every innings, there's only been two centuries and nine half centuries, the average team score is 259.

People saying that the workloads of the current bowlers and how they should be rested. Against how the Aussie bowlers from the 90's and 2000's that were rarely rested and wanted to play in every test series. I don't think we had too many changes during those years as we do now.

Think SOK's name has been marked never to play again.

Pattinson wouldn't be a bad choice, be interesting to see what sort of deck the MCG produces after the last two years. Victoria seem to be scoring 400-500 every home shield game this year (Junction Oval though?) so wonder if it'll be much of the same, if it is then an extra bowler is a must.

I think they go unchanged - whilst Handscomb hasn't really earned his spot, no one outside has earned the right to take it either.

What about Matthew Wade? Leading runs scorer in the SS at the moment. Comes in as a specialist batsman before Paine.

Think you've got your eras wrong for a start.

2000s was when managed workloads really began to come to the fore. 90's we would've still used a fair number of quicks over the journey as well.

Less cricket back in those decades as well - a couple home test series, perhaps a couple of away, less ODI's and no T20's.. these days players are playing literally all year round and with that and their fitness levels and constantly conditioning programs it puts a fair strain on the body.

Also with the increased work load means less down time between matches.

Wade probably could hold claims, but would we want to add another left hander into the lineup for Ashwin to work on?

ALL PLAYED WELL (minus Handscomb)
All bowlers took at least three wickets and all did something with the bat.
4 out of six specialist bats had a half century whilst Marsh compiled a 45.
Paine topped off an excellent keeping/captaincy role with a couple of crucial 30+ innings.

India had 5 contributors: Kohli, Rahahne, and 3 of the 4 quicks.

I think Marsh will come in for Handscomb. He's not good enough as a Test cricketer but he cannot do worse than Handscomb and will give brief bowling respite if needed. And he knows the set-up and isn't a negative addition personality-wise (bye bye Wade).

In the 90's you had a "sore back", you were told to toughen up and get through it or they'll find someone who will.

Nowadays you have "stress fractures" and properly managed through sports scientists before, after and during every match or training session.

Twenty years ago you played in the test team and then chucked the PJ's on to play the ODI stuff, there weren't too many who were just specialists in certain formats, the Sri Lankans changed the dynamics of the shorter version.

You're probably right, he probably will, but I still think it's stupid.

See im thinking along the likes of McGrath, Gillespie, Warne, McDermott, Hughes, etc. They rarely missed a test unless they were injured and wouldn't have wanted to be rested. And I agree we're playing a little more cricket these days. But I still believe that to be the best or maintain the best team in cricket. You have to pick the best side. Can't be picking and choosing which teams to play against. I wonder how many of our bowlers will be rested for the series against Sri Lanka?

When I was growing up watching the Aussies. I used to love watching McGrath, Dizzy, Kasprowic, Warnie, Lee and a few others.

No one will "choose" to be rested against Sri Lanka, if they are fully fit they will be selected.

I was a bit before your time, used to love DK, Thommo, then Henry, I didn't think a lot of Kaspa and I thought Binga was a twat but we were blessed with having the other 3 you named in our era.

Loved the ticker that Whitney and Merv had too.

I can think of bowlers who were regularly around through 90's/00s:
Reiffel
Julian
McGrath
Angel
Kasprowicz
Bichel
Lee
Gillespie
McDermott
Hughes
May
Fleming
MacGill
Clark
Siddle

That's a fair amount of bowlers to me..

Agree, he doesn't deserve a call up. But no one does. IMO Handscomb deserves being retained LESS than Marsh deserves being picked!

Kohli was very good in paying respect to Aussies in his after match interview. Much more than his post-match comments against England.

Bichel was heaps handy in Brian Lara 99 on the mega drive.
