You can thank Cricket Australia for that......never was the same bowler after he returned from India when he was in a Champions Trophy squad but didn't play a game!

This has me interested now. Here's a list of the last 10 to make their test debut from each state. (Based on my memory of which state they were representing at time of debut)

WA: Bancroft, Cartwright, Voges, M Marsh, Agar, S Marsh, Beer, North, Hussey & B Williams
SA: Head, Sayers, Mennie, Ferguson, Lyon, George, Manou, Cullen, Tait & Lehmann
NSW: Maddinson, Nevill, Hazelwood, O'Keefe, Henriques, Warner, Starc, Cummins, Copeland & Khawaja
VIC: Harris, Finch, Handscomb, Holland, Maxwell, Hastings, Quiney, Wade, Pattinson & McKay
QLD: Labuschange, Renshaw, Burns, Harris, Johnson, Watson, Hauritz, Symonds, Love & Muller
TAS: Doolan, Bailey, Faulkner, Bird, Cowan, Doherty, Paine, Hilfenhaus, Krezjia & Miller
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

It has been WA long before Langer got the job. It goes back to when Lawrie Sawle was chairman of selectors and gave clowns like Valetta 8 tests even though his highest test score was 38. WA have been having a dream run for about 40 years. Sure they have had some great players but they have had more duds play for Australia than the rest of the country put together.

Langer has just reinforced the WA bias.

If Patterson was from WA he would have been playing test by now.

Fair list of SA test duds of late like Sayers, Meenie, Ferg, Manou, Cullen, Tait etc. Not just WA who produce them!!

As for Patterson he doesn't convert enough 50's to 100's. Currently has 6 FC tons & 26 FC 50's. If he starts converting a few tons it wont be long till he is in the test team.

Good average and is in FORM,should be selected.
Atleast he gets to 50 which is certainly an improvement on the 20s that the current Aussie batsman make.

Agreed.

If we're using statistics to pick a team, then batting average is far more important than any other stat.

The team that scores the most runs wins the match, not the team that makes the most centuries.

If we're going by conversion rate, Dizzy would be the greatest batsman who ever lived, astonishingly converting every single century he made into a double ton!!

McGain is worse than Beer is worse than Cullen is worse than Doherty, IMO.

Spinners aside, I'd give John Hastings serious consideration as biggest spud to play a test for Australia in the 21st century.

I'm sure that Hilton Cartwright won his spot in a colouring-in competition, Beau Casson, Brad Williams make strong claims and I'll never forget Peter George's throw to the keeper from mid-on when they weren't even running.

Surely has to be the end of Finch, they can not justify his selection, let alone as Captain.

Even his body language in the field stinks these days, is one man whose confidence is totally shot
