Going missing in big games when required ain’t good leadership in my book.

Sloane too me is the better choice as captain IMO.

Has held the club together through some horrid times

Yes he has as have other players, coaches etc.
A horrid time that no one should experience.

But on field I don’t think he has been the leader they expected him to be.

Played last year unfit and injured. Previous year led them to a Grand Final

This is why we can't, IMO, be critical of the bloke, it's almost impossible to measure a mans leadership qualities from outside the inner circle, you have to take the collectives view of him over your own.

We simply aren't involved enough to know what qualities any AFL captain has, we know there's a certain set of criteria ALL captains must have, he must tick some of those boxes.

I do agree there.
I’m a little old school still when it comes to some things, especially picking your captain of your side.
For me they must be your best player or in the top 3 and must be able to stand up when required.

Sloane ticks those boxes for me.
Tex doesn’t IMO

Being a captain in an AFL side has become too big an ask for one person.

Bickley wouldn’t have been in the Crows best 6 players back in the Crows glory days, but was definitely the right type of player to lead them

My old man coached us at school footy, he picked a kid to be captain for the day and they walk into the middle to toss the coin.

Dad says to junior "When they toss the coin you say nice and clear "heads or tails", ok?"

"Yep"

Toss the coin he yells "HEADS OR TAILS!"

BS.....thats why there are massive leadership groups to spread the load. Vice Captain should be taking on a fair share of the leadership responsibilities and in this case Crows should have one of them Captain and the other VC.

You pick the player who you think is the best leader for your club/group and name them captain, its simple.

West Coast and Richmond have gone ok in the last 2 years with one captain.

Apart from the tainted WCE premiership has a team with co-captains won a flag?

Grade 6, notice board said "Footy try outs, Lunch time Thursday"

We head out and and meet Mr Sands near the goals where he briefs us shortly and then says "Just form a line, I'll put it out in front and just take it on the chest".

We line up, John "Fish Lips" Vizard goes straight to the front of the line and I said "Hey Fish, you might wanna let someone else go first"
"No way, I was here first" He replied.

Sandsy kicked the ball out in front and sure enough Fish Lips arched his back, pushed his chest out and let the ball rebound off his chest, it was pure gold and I see it like it happened yesterday still.

Wikipedia only lists one premiership captain per season.

Seeing Easton Wood's name on the list seems somewhat out of place.
