You can as long as you are both in the bike lane, in this case though there was no bike lane so it was legal.

Many cyclists believe this is safer than single file and allowing cars to squeeze past in their lane.

I disagree personally, only time I ride 2 a breast is on quiet country roads and quickly go single file when a car is behind us. I prefer to ride as far possible to the left when on the road, sometimes im even in the gutter, my theory is I would prefer to get side swiped at worst than hit right up the clacker. I have many Facebook fights with cyclists on this which is a bit of fun, they can be a weird lot, but I know Im not going to win any collision with a car.

Due to a lot of the current anger I ride mainly on bike paths now (or roads with bike lanes), luckily I live only 2kms from a bike path network that runs for 40kms all the way to Willunga

This is where the government needs to spend more, trying to ride from Prospect to Gawler is crazy, if you go down Main North Road you have parts where there is no bike lane, if you try to take a safer route then you end up doing an extra 10-15kms.

We are all about being healthier, carpooling etc for the environment but there's limited options.

And when the Adelaide Council tried to make the CBD more bike friendly all the motorists got the shits up!!

I rode from Gawler to Port Adelaide once, alongside the Northern expressway there is a great bike path but then it is russian roulette on the Salisbury Highway which was interesting to say the least.

The CBD is crap enough trying to drive through it.

Yes, Port Wakefield Road is crazy too, it's pretty scary between Bolivar Road and and the Salisbury Highway overpass, from then on it is super scary, I've seen at least 5 cyclist deaths between there and Cavan Road over the years.

If you really want to shit yourself, try the northern half of Prospect Road, Sudanese and Asians of all ages who simply have no idea on how to drive and buy themselves SUV's so they are safer. It's even worse as it's slightly downhill so reaching 50km/h is easy, not much fun when they pull straight out on you.

A significant percentage of cyclists are a special breed - as in, thoughtless, arrogant, ignorant & just plain selfish. Not all of them, but a significant percentage.

Special breed is a kind way of describing them!

That big wide and in places double lane road?

It's awful, I nearly had to speed up and/or slow down once or twice, completely ruined my day.

You can't seriously be arguing cyclists should pay rego?

I'd love for you to detail the pricing structure.

With or without basket costs
With or without spokey dokeys?

Its not a double lane road most of the way. And even when it is (West Lakes) its a 1/2 lane road for cars when theres a f**kin five wide peloton outside the bike lane provided.

They shouldn't pay rego, but they should keep inside the bike lane.

Why have it, reducing parking, when no c**t uses it anyway?

The old rego argument is the funniest one. 95% of cyclists already pay rego as they drive cars!

Enforce a registration system and you will immediately reduce cyclists and increase cars on the road.

How does a 3yo register their bike?

I think the rego argument is so they have to have rego plates so they can be identified and held accountable for traffic violations...which are plentiful.

to be fair, thats a crap counter argument. i own two cars and a trailer, and i have to register them all, despite only driving one at a time (or in the case of the trailer, seldom towing it)

not saying cyclists should be registered, just that ive never believed that is a valid counter to the idea

Put it this way...do you think cyclists would be happy for me to walk side by side with someone else in the bike lane, while there's heavy traffic and a separate footpath provided?

Everyone rants about rego - I dont think it's so much the rego as such - but more of some sort of identification system so that you can't get away with flouting road rules all the time
