Finally got players scoring how I want - this is an example of how I score.. yes it's colourful lol. I use colours per bowlers - it makes it far easier to count balls faced later, it shows straight away who scored runs off what bowlers, and i use letters in the running total for extras also so i know.

The amount of variations that I've seen of the word "caught" is something special.

Something for you blokes to consider.

Our old scorer ( I think he might still do it ) would, at the end of the season, get the books from the matches where blokes made a century and rewrite the whole page out in full colour "official" scoring format. It would get framed and presented to the century makers on presentation night, my last century is the only one I have and it hangs in the man cave.

It's a great little momento.

We used to do it back when I played in the hills until one day we re-did one and found out the bloke only made 97. Had be incorrectly given a 4 and threw his wicket away after he thought he made 100 lol

**** the spelling lessons, get an iPad mycricket app and plonk it straight in there. All you need then is a 'running sheet' which would be used for a rough copy of the score then put the neat version in the book or mycricket. No need to waste space counting balls faced in the book as that is in the running sheet with all the **** ups and scribble.

Nothing beats going over the scorebook back at the club on a Saturday night with a beer in the hand.

The mycricket app has a lot of improving to do for live scoring, it is brilliant when everything is working fine, it's disastrous when things turn to shit or you select the wrong bowler.

Flick through some random comps on a Saturday night or Sunday morning, you can see heaps that have crashed mid-game.

The app is very good and much improved these days, but I much prefer doing both and having the scorebook still.

Nah you can easily change the bowler for the entire over now if you have the wrong bowler.

Thanks for clearing that up, the teams that my son plays for have permanent scorers so I haven't had to do any this season for the first time ever, not that I mind scoring.

I enjoy scoring.

I'd sooner score than go out and umpire.

Too right, if you're a smart enough captain you can get around it.

Take the book and bat yourself at 6 and tell 7 & 8 that they are doing the first 10 overs then 9 &10, then 11 & the first opener to get out. There's 30 overs gone and more often than not you get a bloke or two who don't mind umpiring and do an extended stint.

That's usually what I try to do - bat myself 10 or 11, make the #5 start at square, 10 over stints working way down the order, once it reaches me then send the top order out in order of dismissal.

Unfortunately though this season i haven't got that setup or support because the side is full of lazy c**ts.

I've been lucky enough to have a few captains who are happy with me scoring until I have to pad up (I generally bat 9-11).

I try to be as neat as possible, so the lads and club can enter the results in easily.
