We didn't get to wear the prison bar or keep our nickname upon entrance to the AFL but have moved on, well most have anyway, this should be no different.
Yes this is true. There is a small supporter group that is particular upset about this, however I'm sure they'll be fine in the end.

As I have said before for me this is not a huge issue, I am more so concerned with issues around our game plan, skill level and ball movement first.

The death of the Port Magpies in the SANFL is still something I will always be disappointed in in terms of football which ever way you look at it. Still such a sad end to something some grand.

I will always recall fondly the memories of going to Alberton with the old man and his old man to see the Magpies play.

However gone are the good old days and the way things are heading the SANFL is walking the same line. Very sad.

Incorrect. Geof Motley wore #17 in his first year as captain in 1959.

At least Wines is wearing the same number as their only premiership captain in the AFL....
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

I agree. In saying that, the Magpies arm of the PAFC should have been put to bed in 1997.

It’s definitely not end of world stuff but I like uniquish traditions.

It was also sad Arsenal removed their 100 year tradition which saw the captain chose whether the team wore long sleeves or short sleeves each individual match. All the players had to follow suit.

Geof Motley wore #17 for his 8 years as captain. Denis Errey wore #1 in Motley's latter years.

I have an inkling that John Cahill #14 in his first year as captain, 1967 but then Fos made him change to #1.

If anyone has a copy of the 1967 Grand Final budget they would be able to verify whether Cahill did wear 14 or 1.

Some of the social media comments about this have been hilarious. Any excuse to tear up their memberships and they do it!

JK wrote:Must admit Ive been seriously surprised by how important the 1 Captain issue is with so many Port supporters. Heaps of people talking about handing in their membership if the club breaks with tradition. I understand the want of many to keep in line with a proud history, and Ive always personally been a fan of just the 1 skipper at a club, but at the end of the day support the club and if they decide co-captains is in their best interest (why else would they do it?) then surely you just go with it?

The die hard/front running port fans will use any excuse to jump off.

Time slots
AAMI stadium is crow stadium(2 minutes from Alberton)
Weather
Ticket prices
Making a grand final and getting ass punched
Train strikes
Beer prices
Missing out on pregame dragon boat races
Telecast was Live on tv
Paying a for a bus ticket to the game

The results don’t change just the excuses.

Are port going to take up the bad press they cop with former player Dwayne Russell.

As for co-captains at port well the line “it’s the true port Adelaide tradition”’ I’m assuming will be changed :-)

Looks like we need to add co-captains to the list of excuses PAFC fans won’t attend Afl games in droves :-)

Poor front runners
