How’d 2007 end up for you guys? ;)

Bring on the season proper!

Will have a very similar output to what Joel Selwood had in his debut season.

Continues on that trajectory and Carlton have got a fine player indeed.

Geez that's a massive call

I don't see it that way.

Joel played 21 games in 2007, averaging 19 disposals, .3 goals and 4.5 tackles a game. Joel was able to achieve those numbers, in part, due to the outstanding midfield he had surrounding him (Ablett, Bartel, Corey).

Despite Carlton being likely to finish bottom 3, Walsh will still have the likes of Cripps and Murphy who are able to take the attention away from him a little. Walsh has the body to play 20 games this season, and a 17 disposal, 3 tackle average isn't out of the question.

It was our darkest hour, it nearly caused our demise but it's not going anywhere though.

On the day sitting behind 3 generations of Cats fans all in tears embracing each other that their drought was over reminded me that I've had it pretty bloody good. I've seen 13 SANFL and 1 AFL Premiership in my 43 years, that's one every 3 years (more or less) and sure there's been a drought that doesn't look like ending soon, but by hook or by crook I'd rather that than be a South Adelaide, Melbourne or St Kilda fan.

I've watched that GF 3 times since the day, it hurts like buggery but it makes all those good times feel even better, it's only football, after all.

I'd hasten a guess that the eldest of those 3 generations that day probably isn't here anymore, if so, how good is it that the other two generations shared that with her? If it means I cop a bit of stick, meh, I'm a big boy.

5 of them good in's. I can't comment on Fasolo because I haven't seen him run around nor do I know who he might be replacing up forward. I hope he presents well and gets in and under the feet of the McKay's and C Curnow's where he needs to be to be damaging.

Kruez is way under done so I'm glad we're not doing a Lynch and rushing him in. Lynch underdone will still kick 6 mind you!

I'll admit, I teared up when we won that game. I saw Billy Brownless wiping a tear and I followed suit. Being a Cats fan in the nineties was a wild ride. We could have been the team of the decade but we had too many weaknesses in the backline, then the midfield lost pace and started to get injured. With Garys Ablett and Hocking we had two of the top five players our club has ever had. Throw in Couch, Bairstow, Hinkley, Stoneham and Brownless and that's some talent on the park right there.

The Cats were called chokers but we ran into Hawthorn of the eighties, the WA state team, I mean the West Coast, and a truly great Carlton side that smashed everyone all season long. The worst one was in ninety two when we led by five goals before Matera tore us a new one. So yeah, we were pretty happy to finally get one. Even worse, I'm a Redleg who went to many finals with Boon and family and friends....all Porties and we didn't win too many. I was outnumbered and gave plenty of cheek but no chocolates for REB. So it was especially gratifying to smash Port in that game. I must of been a good loser in the nineties...I had plenty of experience after all, because Booney was kind enough to buy me the WEG poster, a gesture I haven't forgotten.

regards,

REB

Yeah but it's actually more like Stocker + top 10 pick for pick 1.

What if the old cows threw a bit of coin around and went after say Grundy and used pick 1 as part of this.

Could turn out to be a master stroke in the end.....for Adelaide that is.

Then again we haven't seen Stocker at all so we have no idea if he is any good yet.

Would go against their whole salary cap model they've talked about for years and, IMO, would be a waste of money and resources.

With the oldest list in the comp and with Talia, Lynch, Walker, Sloane, Otten, Gibbs, Jenkins, Mackay, Jacobs, Douglas and Betts 28 or older ( the last 6 30 or older ) their window is shut and putting all their eggs in the Grundy basket would be a disaster.

I'll say it for the 1000th time. WE DO NOT NEED ANYMORE DRAFT PICKS!

Giving up No 1 is a great result. It shows we're not going to go through the motions whilst Curnow, Cripps, McKay etc get older while young kids have to develop. Develop them at the same time and bring them through at the same time.

Finally, a strategy!

As far as Bolton is concerned. the catch phrase around the club has something to do with playing 30-50 games together. Brisbane are close to that stage, Melbourne are getting there. It's not the silver bullet but it means you give yourself a chance. Our defence has started playing games together but our forward line hasn't. Nor has our mids. Till then, the only worry is that the media are putting pressure on the club again. The club has been brilliant in the calm communication unlike the Malthouse days where it was all over the shop with mixed messages.

On top of this, Richmond and Collingwood stuck with their coaches and success (or variations of) occurred straight away. Why change? If there is some reason that is outstanding, then do so. At the moment, I can't see it.

Losses like that are losses you have to have in our situation. Are they pleasant? Absolutely not. Do we want to go through it again? No. However, I have watched our last three seasons closely and we're getting there. We're not 1 season behind Brisbane, we're 1.5-2 behind Brisbane but we are getting there.

I will be happy to back Bolton until I see any reason not to. At the moment I'd feel very sorry for Bolton to do all the hard yards and not get a chance to reap the rewards.
