Purchase maybe not the right word but they take back in the Scotts, Smith, Fantasia, Neil etc and then when they take off as they do every time they go and sook to the league.

Troy Scott was a regular out there, Dublin chucked some coin at him to get them off the ground then Freeling out-coined them, Adam Smith has been a part of the furniture out there since he was a kid, Fanta lived with him and was out there for many years too, Phil Neil may have been given some dosh but he was good mates with the other two.

One thing I've always noticed out at Goat land, they have a great comradeship with each other, I've always enjoyed playing against them and enjoyed having a post game beer with them regardless of the venue, they'd always stick around as I always did up there, they've even presented our best player awards as they hung around that long one night.

Those guys have come and gone a few times from there. The same thing also happened in the late 90’s early 2000’s with the Bishops and Heinrich.

Don’t get my wrong I like the lads out there and I love their long standing history but in feel they tend to like to have to a bit of a bob both ways and try and pick and choose what they do more than most other clubs.

Most have had it at some stage, at one point when Craigmore lost pretty much their whole team they were forced to tough it out, it certainly helped them in the long run.
The Goats have done it a few times since 2000, Rosies did it, Units for the first time last season, I'm sure the Pines have, Salisbury North along with a few others no doubt, it's ironic that those with the best junior programs seem to be more sustained at the top end, Westies and Angle Vale, then now Craigmore, North Pines are building a fair foundation too now.

You gotta take your hat off to Virginia, they just continue to be competitive in the top Grade with an ageing list and no juniors coming through.

Virginia have done well but their test will come when the old crew retires, which surely it has to at some point lol

I look at clubs like Craigmore, Riverside, Atco even EP in the mid 2000’s toughened it out. Smithfield seemed to have always played in the division they were meant to.

After OTH were allowed to I think a lot of clubs will have a crack at staying down

It's an interesting one.. i've always believed in trying to play the best level you can, and sometimes playing a level above "comfortable" helps develop you into a better cricket.

I'd choose a tough year in a higher div than staying down and having easy success.

Absolutely, couldn’t agree more.

At the end of the day you’re never going to play gf’s win a premiership every year (unless your westies) so if you have blokes threatening to leave because it’s too hard for a season all you’re doing is delaying the inevitable.

And generally you will lose 1 or 2 of the good ones who were up to standard that don’t want to play such a low grade.

I'll take your word for it then, would've been hard to leave Dublin and I didn't really see Freeling as a club that would chuck money at players knowing Bluey very well, he got along well with Raed at Smithfield and along with who else is already out there they'd hardly need to.

More so that the gap between Grade 1 and 2 is at it's hugest, the games I watched of Grade 2 this season the bowling was very average, I didn't see any of the top 4 though, I gather Pretorious, Carl's brother, Miles, Bignell and Atkins would be well above the average I witnessed as all I seen was crafty, no pace.

Congrats to NEK on their win. Went out and recruited well this year, and were the standout side all season. Would've been a while since they last won a flag, have oftened been cursed dropping out in the Semi Final.

Salisbury West just keep finding ways to get it done.

Much like the Port Adelaide Magpies of the 90's I don't like that but you just have to respect them. They always do it on the back of a strong core of junior coached players.

They are the premier club of the competition who aren't afraid to chuck kids in the deep end and back them in, they have more coming through the 16's this year that I'd expect to see playing a few A Grade games next season.

Always has made me jealous. I feel it's a level Eastern Park could have got to with the talent that has come through their juniors...…...if only the club really cared about cricket.
