3 weeks in a row Port Adelaide are under the spotlight of Friday night football. Some exposure for our sponsors on the national stage, can’t be a bad thing. Marvel Stadium, Collingwood, why doesn’t it sound as threatening as MCG, Collingwood? 3rd vs 5th in what appears to the match of the round.

Statistically we stack up pretty well against Collingwood, winning more clearances and contested possessions the raw numbers suggest Port’s midfield will get first use of the ball, however, we’ve yet to face a midfield boasting Grundy, Sidebottom, Pendlebury, Beams, Treloar, Adams and co. Looms as a ripping contest in the centre square and around the ground with Lycett and Ryder set to tackle Grundy with Reid as his back up, Cox is out with an ankle injury, slightly weakening the Collingwood ruck battery, not by much though as Grundy does the bulk of the work.

Whilst the key matchup’s are at the coal face there’s a couple of critical matchup’s around the ground where, for Port to hold sway, I think, they need to go our way.

In Collingwood forward half Mihocek and De Goey offer intriguing matchup’s, especially with Tom Jonas ruled out with his calf complaint.

Mihocek is mobile, gets up and down the ground and can take a mark, for mine, Ryan Burton is the man to run with him. Mihocek, 192cm, Burton, 191, this looks to be the matchup for mine. On the flip side Burton’s ability to get off his man and attack the forward 50 from the wing will give Mihocek something to think about in transition. Burton > Mihocek.

De Goey, one of those who you wished played for you, explosive, damaging, clinical at times, he’s a player who can have 10 touches and kill you or have 30 touches and kill you. Jonas would have been De Goey’s marker if available, with TJ on the sidelines the close to goal matchup looks like it will go to Tommy Clurey. He’s got the strength to compete with De Goey, perhaps not the explosiveness off the mark but not many defenders do. Clurey will be relying on the likes of DBJ at ground level and Howard in the air to help him out. Clurey > De Goey.

At the other end of the ground Collingwood don’t really employ a traditional back pocket, Jeremy Howe and Brayden Maynard like to compete in the air and get off their opponent to take the game on. Here the likes of Rozee and Sammy Gray might get some opportunities at ground level to find some space and work some goal kicking magic.

As such the key match up at this end for mine is Ryder on Roughead. Roughead, coming across from the Bulldogs, has made full back his spot in the ‘Pies line up with Lynden Dunn out of the side. Ryder didn’t take a mark last week, he needs to assert some aerial dominance over Roughead and either clunks some marks or bring the ball down for Rozee, SGray and Butters to work with.

The other critical match up forward of centre is Todd Marshall dealing with the vastly improved Darcy Moore who looks at home across half back. We saw Moore and Daniher duke it out on Anzac Day and Moore took every opportunity to mark the ball in one-on-one contests, he’s not hell bent on spoiling, he’s prepared to back himself and that’s what Marshall needs to do this week, back himself in. Marshall needs to get Moore closer to goal and become a scoring options and keep Moore’s offensive work to a minimum.

Boon's key match ups :

Grundy – Lycett/Ryder
Mihocek – Burton
De Goey – Clurey
Ryder – Roughead
Marshall – Moore

I’m hopeful our midfield can match it with the ‘Pies engine room, I think our small forwards can take advantage of the ‘Pies at ground level as the Collingwood team defence might not deal with the unpredictable and varying Port attack, we’ve got some really dangerous smalls at the moment and big games from our tall targets can bring these guys into the game, offensively keeping Mihocek closer to goal cuts off an avenue for Collingwood to attack and keeping De Goey to 2 goals (or less) will go a long way to helping Port Adelaide get the win.

Prediction – A close one either way. Collingwood by 9 points.

Sportsbet – either team by 15 or less - $2.88 ( Gamble responsibly )

Collingwood, 7 goals, the hardest part will be going 1-39 or 40+, it'll be right on the cusp.

Years gone by this would've been one of those games of 'which Port side would show up' but, we've been pretty solid in most games this year, which has me agreeing with Boon that this should be a great contest.

What leads me away from that is the biggest d@#khead in head, David King predicts this will be the game of the year! so in other words a blow out either way.

Absolutely brings Port into the game. Not only their supporters, but Collingwood as a club hate playing home games at Marvel.

It can be, but travelling to Marvel to play Collingwood is less daunting than travelling to the MCG to play them.

Yeah travelling 45 minutes in a plane is pretty tough. Making excuses for the loss already.

The two teams haven't met at Marvel since 2012, Collingwood lead 4-0 at Marvel H2H with an average winning margin of 43 points.

Na we just won't be good enough. Playing out of our skin at the moment and it's bound to end soon. Bombers will run us into the ground. I predict they will be around 5 goal up at qtr time and will be too hard to peg them back. You read it here first.
