SA 2019 Draft Watch

Postby Jim05 » Sun May 05, 2019 9:52 am

Be interesting to see if the two Adelaide clubs pick anyone from the SANFL and if so whether the SANFL clubs have the cojones to block the players from fronting up against them at SANFL level

Feels a little weird.

Whilst we know that most SANFL footballers dream is to play AFL it feels like a real slap in the face when you see two of your players so obviously show their hand.

In this case 2 of the Neagle boys have nominated, they have been at the club for 6 games, we are sitting 2 and 4, whilst we can't be mad at them for having the AFL dream it kind of feels like they 'want out' already.

Logically it doesn't make sense but I hope it emotionally make sense to SANFL fans.

Isn't the list based on Draft nominations within the last 2 years or something like that? Meaning some of these blokes make a list by default rather than nominating specifically for this draft?

No. Had to have been on a previous draft nomination and renominate for this draft.

Wait for an about face on this though (about having previously been a draft nominee).

My impression was that players had to 'nominate' as there were an element who couldn't/wouldn't go mid season due to current employment, family etc.

Could be wrong though as I haven't followed it that closely.

OK stand corrected, cheers lads. Good on the lads for having a crack I guess, but there's a few names there that would astound me if they were even considered.

Think the nomination process has changed....you used to nominate once and be in the pool for 3 drafts but now must nominate every 12 months. There are a couple of players caught out by this rule this year and therefore didn't nominate for last year's draft and in turn not eligible for this one either....

We haven’t got a pick as of yet but Draper copped a knee injury in the VFL yesterday and the club is awaiting scans to see if it is serious or not

Draper confirmed ACL this morning and put on the LTI list so we now have a pick.
Looking like Michael Knoll will get the nod which I’m not thrilled about. Hate seeing the SANFL plundered like this

And the same team twice.
Most Clubs have good role players and 4-8 top end players and they are the difference between the GF aspirants and the rest. If South are to lose a second top-end player in 3 months that has clearly moved them from GF aspirants to also rans. That is a stark reality under this set-up and South surely can litigate on behalf of their members.

Sydney would not even reimburse us for McLean. Told us to "chase the player" which we chose not to do.

We may be jumping at shadows yet but if he goes, we will have to be inventive for a ruck option. Is Trent Ormond Allen still registered?
