So the umpires are now even allowed to apply interpretations to rules that are clearly written?

Correct. Just saw this now as I didn’t watch last night - how did none of the umpires see it?

Massive please explain owed to Essendon

Especially as at other times the "non-officiating" umpires are so keen to pay in-play frees from 50m away that an umpire 10m away chooses to let go.

Predictable? ******* disgrace more like it.

A "warning" is sufficient for such a deliberate act, yet they give away 50m penalties for players inadvertently setting foot in some wide "protected zone" that doesn't have any influence on the the game.

No ones saying overturn the result or anything and we didn’t deserve to win but Christ would it hurt the AFL to actually come out and admit they got something wrong?

My inexperienced 15yo daughter got stood down for a week because some asshole scammed her into giving him more change. Do the same for a clear error from an experienced well paid official and admit you're wrong AFL.

I didn't see it. I've seen the snippet on replay but did he 'intentionally shake' the post? I think that's the sticking point.

I hope the media make a huge issue out of this & go on about it all week.
It is simply not good enough.
At the end of the day, the umpire deliberately chose not to pay a blatantly obvious free kick which he witnessed, instead choosing to “warn” the player twice. It is irrelevant that maybe Sydney were the better team on the night, countless teams lose during the season when they’ve outplayed their opponents. The fact of it is, this umpire mistake cost Essendon the match.
