2: How did he not award a free kick at the end of the square, I'd be filthy if I was an Essendon supporter and it cost me the finals, absolutely disgraceful umpiring, should be stood down for a month minimum.

Should have been a free kick but THAT ain’t costing us finals

The AFL swept this one under the carpet, didn't they?

They know the umpire got it wrong, it's as clear as day that jumping on the post when a player is having a kick at goal results in a free kick at the top of the square, but, given it was a 5 point lead they know it would open a massive can of worms so they back the umpire for "practical umpiring" and having a "feel" for the game even though he just got it wrong, plain and simple.

Thought the justification in not paying it was spot on by Gil. Do you pay 50m every time a player goes over the mark or do they 90% of the time blow the whistle and bring them back with no penalty?

1 - The umpire TOLD HIM to get down, TWICE! If you go over the mark and don't come back after being asked twice do they pay 50m?

2 - A player with his arms up, back to the man with the ball doesn't run WSW and comes in the "protected zone" and the umpire pays 50m.

3 - If the bloke giving the 50m away doesn't disappear into a quicksand pit the umpire pays ANOTHER 50m penalty.

4 - Why do they defend the indefensible?

If the ump paid the free who would the heat be on post game? Umpire or Rampe. I get the feeling the ump was in a no win situation and thought he'd have less impact by giving the warning rather than the free when really the free was there and all the heat should be put on Rampe for such a brain fade.

Climbing a goal post might be a tad different, it's not open to interpretation, it's a judgement call on whether the man on the mark cribbed, you're wither climbing a post or you're not!

Rampe, it was one of the dumbest things I've ever seen on a footy field, I liken it to slapping the ball away with your hand if you were batting in a cricket game.

The rule would have backed the umpire up as being 100% correct therefore the only conclusion is the heat would have been on Rampe for doing something so stupid.

Spot on. Got off before he kicked.

Some people trying to deflect from their teams performance of the weekend to swans bash again. It was dumb and I doubt it will ever happen again

Really? It's not Sydney bashing, it's umpire bashing and if you can't the see difference you need to take your red and white glasses off.

If a player is on or is shaking a post is it a free kick? ( Hint, in the rules yes, it is ).
