Should've chucked a pineapple on at $11 and stashed the cash for the impending recession

The morning after the night before.
What a night.
I never followed Election coverage after a winner had been decided, but I guess I stayed on until Bill finally declared. I did vote for Amanda Rishworth, so In effect I did vote for Bill and I didnt have Libs last.
I saw Rishworth do a lot of corner talks and standing on side of road with her corflutes in hand waving them about, she does have a strong presence.
I was disappointed that there were only 42 names below the line.
SHY was 42 on my list ....and it looks like she squeezed in....ffs

Now there is plenty of analysis of the campaign that both teams run, even if they were dwarfed by Clives ads....
But Bill did the Herschelle Gibbs, and dropped the World Cup.
I tend to agree with some pundits that Labor probably should have stuck to a simple wages attack as they have generally done previously and done it well.

Bill took on the fastest growing group in Australia- the retirees and tried to demonise them. Everyone’s got parents.
Even my in laws were dead against him and they wouldn’t have been hit with the franking credits or CGT changes.
I have never seen them so angry and vocal against a politician

The first thing the new government should do is raise pensions to thank the “basket of deplorables”

Franking credit changes are pretty sensible and pretty minor

My question is why even bring them up at all? Why not just wait till your in power to make a change like that?

Negative gearing was probably the only major policy they had and it's easy to be attacked on that

In hindsight, Labor's internal polling is known as the best in the business and by the looks of things they knew they were going to lose from the start hence appealing to their base/attacking the Libs base. It makes a bit of sense now in hindsight putting such a big target on your back like that if you know you need to go for broke.

One thing that puzzled me early in the campaign was Shorten following Morrison around everywhere they were campaigning in the exact same area in Tassie at one point and I thought that was weird as all the polls & betting markets had Labor romping it in. The ALP obviously knew and were on the defensive from the get go.

Last night I turned the TV on around 10pm expecting Labor to already have it in the bag by then to see the LNP on 74 seats to Labor's 66, my jaw hit the floor I've never been as shocked as this at an election result. The pollsters may never regain their credibility I mean betting agencies were already paying out on a Labor win on Friday. One guy bet $1 million on Labor, staggering stuff.
