The upgrade of a popular Mitchell Park sporting complex will receive a $5 million funding boost – regardless of next week’s federal election outcome.

Liberal candidate for Boothby Nicolle Flint has promised $5 million toward the Mitchell Park Sports and Community Club rebuild if the Liberal Party is re-elected.

This matches Labor’s commitment last month.

Marion Council had already committed $10 million towards the revamp of the rundown complex, at Bradley Grove Reserve.

The proposed makeover includes a new indoor stadium, a gym, changerooms, a kiosk, more parking and a neighbourhood centre for community programs.

Ms Flint said the redevelopment would support existing users of the sporting complex, including the Mitchell Park football, cricket and rugby clubs, as well as attract new users to the site, such as the South Adelaide Basketball Club.

“The new facilities will also support greater use by local residents and the community by

providing a range of activities and services for the public,” she said.

“I am so proud to support grassroots sport and community upgrades like this one.”

Marion Council had been lobbying for federal support between $5 million and $10 million to increase the centre’s facilities.

Mayor Kris Hanna said the project would create jobs and opportunities for local businesses, and address a shortage of indoor sports facilities in the region.

“Marion Council is delighted that both Liberal and Labor have each committed $5 million toward our number one election funding priority,” Mr Hanna said.

“Combined with a $10 million budgeted commitment from the council, the total of $15 million ensures that we can shortly commence a final design process for the project.”

Mitchell Park Sports and Community Club president John Gumley said he was “ecstatic” at the news.

“It’s great news,” Mr Gumley said.

“We will be able to bring the South Adelaide Basketball Club and a lot of community groups over to our site.

“We’ll have everyone under the one roof in modern facilities so it’s going to be really good.”

Your Mob Bedge, is the Only C Grade side that could knock them off. But I highly doubt that unfortunately. :?

Nah! Could've stayed and played in the B grade premiership side this season.

Great win by the A-Grade at home today. Fell 2-3 goals down a couple of times in the second half but ground out a 5 point win.

You can tell he has great goal sense, just needs to find a bit more of the footy, which will come as he gets fitter and improves workrate.

Yeah but in fairness (and without disrespect) that C grade side would touch up most, if not all D7 A grade sides

Without disrespect.. that’s a bloody dumb comment.

Yes HV C grade prob better than a lot of other D7A sides, but he’s not playing AGAINST that quality.. he’s playing against some genuine low grade C grade sides.

In no way you spin it is he bettering himself, he’s just another hero looking for low grade glory and joining a side that really didn’t need him.

Interesting though, my mail is hhs didn’t leave Houghton anyway.. he was moved on - word was “attitude was cancerous” - no matter how good you are, no club should deal with that.

Good riddance to bad rubbish Raiders fans saying.

The last thing Loky is - is cancerous.

The Andersons are a great family and I won't hear a bad word about any one of them
