Having been footy retired for about 15 years and cricket retired about 7 years I can honestly say I don't miss it. I miss the comradery of the clubs but I can't say I "miss" the sporting side of things. Sure, it would be nice to kick another goal, belt another 6 or take another wicket but I could give that all away to be back in the team environment, that's all that I miss from those days.

It's interesting how we look back on these things.

Hearing ya, I've still got a decent leg on me in between hamstring strains and always get asked to go have another kick, I'm content with it being in my past.

Cricket is a little different, I went from playing A's and coaching the seniors, womens and a junior side to having to walk away from a club that I grew up at to find who I was again, won a heap of premierships during my tenure and I'm grateful for that, I play the odd game every now and then and may return to it at some stage but my kids sports are my main focus now.

The last game I played I got to play with my son and my daughter, I even stuck around long enough to bat with both of them, now I think it would be the other way around with my son now, he'd be better than me.

1/ SANFL prominence on the radio - either driving home from SANFL footy listening to the round-the-grounds wrap-up that took an hour or having it on whilst you were doing other stuff. I know there's still some radio, but just the vitalness of it all back then.
2/ Dirt and mud on material playing tops.
3/ Cricket bats instead of slugging clubs.
4/ Full-size cricket boundaries.

5/ Sporting commentators that didn't have their larrikinism and character media-trained out of them. Ian Day, Lou Richards, Bill Lawry, Ray Warren, of the top of my head, no doubt plenty of others. Still some semblance of it Rabs, Gus, Sterlo and Fatty when they get together on the Rugby League

Thats more to do with the well kept ovals these days, even at grassroots level you only really get mud if there is a turf pitch involved.
