PORT ADELAIDE defender Matthew Broadbent has been provided a leave of absence from football to allow him to focus on his mental health.

General Manager – Football, Chris Davies said the club would not put a timeframe on his return, with the 28-year-old’s health and wellbeing the primary focus.

“Matthew is a valued player, teammate and person at the Port Adelaide Football Club. At this point, the best option for his overall health is to step away from the game for a while,” Davies said.

“The club’s primary focus is on Matthew’s health and welfare and we will continue to provide him with the ongoing support he requires.”

“We can’t say at this point how long that will be but he will be given as long as he needs.

The Port Adelaide Football Club asks that Broadbent and his family be given appropriate time and privacy to deal with the matter.

Three things

I can’t believe he is only 28, looks 40
Too many footballers and people in general with mental health issues
All the best to him, seems like a ripper bloke

It's the first time in memory we've played smoke and windows behind mirrors with injuries.

A few weeks back Hinkley was ruling blokes out on the Tuesday in his presser, I don't mind that, if you're out you're out and opposition sides spend more time worrying about their own game than ours ( as all clubs do ), not many sides make changes based on match ups, maybe a tall for a small but nothing more than that.

But when Rockliff came off in Tasmania, got a rub down, went back out and barely made it to the centre square before returning to ice his hamstring the "It seemed to be cramp" line was bullshit like no other bullshit. Why run that out when we've been pretty open since the start of the year.....

It's bloody frustrating when your team does that. Geelong is a classic with our late outs.

Hopefully Broadbent recovers quickly but would he have held his spot any way with Hartlett coming back?

Someone hacked your account?
A few very ordinary sides in the lower part of the 8 currently and a whole group of average sides on the whole in the middle tier. Bit of a raffle between 7 or 8 sides for the last 3 spots in the 8 and Port are still in the raffle.

Do you think you ran out of legs boon?

I know you have just come of the bye but the bye tends to leave teams a bit flat for the week after. Whilst it is good long term for the players I just reckon the week after players tend to be blowing a bit more.

The same Dogs side that only narrowly avoided losing twice in the same season to the worst team since Fitzroy?
There are about 7 or 8 of us as flaky as each other and who all could string a couple together and push for the 8.
There will be 3 or 4 very ordinary sides make the 8 this year.
