No
They can only host a final against interstate opponents and can’t host a Prelim no matter the opponent.
The MCG agreement also has number one priority and over a 5 year rolling period at least 10 finals in week 1 must be played at the MCG so if that quota isn’t filled they wouldn’t get a home final at all

Ha! Yeah right, they will ask and get an afl slap down im sure.

The only way Geelong get a home final is if there is already 2 MCG games and they are facing an interstate team. Looking at the ladder theres a fair chance of playing an interstate side but I cant see the MCG having 1 or less games (assuming pies/tiges get a home final). Come week 2 of finals and beyond theres no chance of a game at the cattery.

It's a disgrace that Geelong can't host a final...

yeah, but it should be on a regular basis. If they earn a home final they should get one. Every year

Except the rules specifically say “home state” final. Hence why GWS have to play at either the SCG or Homebush

Yes I agree which is my point. They've done it before why not do it regularly. AFL shouldn't be able to chop and choose which game can be

They played a prelim at spotless... I have the same thoughts with gws on this topic.

They had a Prelim because they played the Dogs. If it was a bigger club they would have been forced to move it.
All Prelims in Victoria have to be at the MCG for the next 20 odd years

We probably would get a few more home finals if teams like Carlton and Essendon weren't so shit and actually played finals every now and then. They could then play their games at the MCG and let us play our games at Geelong.
So you've seen everything have you?

Geelong trying to convince everyone that playing at the MCG is an away game is laughable.

We have an away game this weekend and that won't be an issue, so away games is not the problem. It's more the fact we aren't allowed to play a final in Geelong at our home ground.

Cats are playing 2 Home Games this year at MCG just to make the extra $$$$ on offer against bigger clubs.

Plain & simple once they play all 11 home games at GMBHA/Kardina/Skilled staidium what ever its called currently they can have exclusive home finals IMO. Can't pick & choose
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

Geelong ask for 11 home games at Kardinia Park every year.
There needs to be 80,000 at the MCG to come close to generating the same revenue as a full house at Kardinia Park.
We played Essendon at the MCG in front of 65k, and we play Hawthorn there which means we are not making the extra $$$$$ you say are on offer.

Even as maybe the most one eyed cat going around I don't agree. If we can't win at the G we don't deserve to be premiers for mine. The G should not be considered an away ground by the Cats ever, even if it's full of mad Richmond fans. We didn't lose that one because of the drums and the fans, we lost because we played shit and rightly got pantsed.

I'd much rather play the Giants at the G rather than Cat Park tbh. If we are good enough we win at the G.

regards,

REB
