In our game the umpire with links to our opponent made several questionable decisions, all in the favour of the visiting team which may or may not have affected the result but from the outside looking in it appears to be so.

Harris was the better umpire by far it’s a tough gig when his mate has a stinker
Think some positives should be recognised the excitement and expectations of the eagles and the outstanding dual between light and Gameau

I think they’re pretty much all on the same page and generally don’t over-umpire.

The ones that were a bit too hot on the whistle aren’t out there anymore.

Yes, they will have a bad day from time to time, the negatives are more noticeable if your team loses.

Why has today's Owls vs Rams game been moved to Virginia?

Apparently it was Virginia's request to change this game with round 15 where they were to host due to their indoor centre being booked for something else

Yeah mate, something along them lines, all I heard was it was to do with netball courts, I think Virginia's are being re-surfaced or something, but either way, it was to do with the clash later in the season.

Had a good young umpire, Baylis, on Saturday. Did a good job, need these young blokes to keep coming through. BJ's lad did his 1st central umpiring game at HB vs AV in the U14'S on Saturday as well, he would only be 15, great to see this happen in our league.

Isaac Pepe cleared by United to Mallala on the June 30 deadline. Wouldn't clear him pre-season, has played snr colts and A grade since for the Tigers, what changed?

Understandably, United did all they possibly could to try and convince him to stay, but unfortunately for them it sounds as though he could not be persuaded. I think the lad was just desperate to play with some of his close mates.

MESSAGE FROM APFL TO ALL CLUBS
The APFL board is concerned at recent reports that abusive and threatening behaviours by spectators, club officials and players both on and off field is becoming a more regular occurrence. This is unacceptable, the board and umpires are concerned that this rising level of poor behaviour towards umpires in particular will lead to an incident we all will regret. There is also quite a deal of poor behaviour directed at opposition players and officials during games, this is also unacceptable.

I write this letter to all clubs, officials from all clubs, players and spectators from all clubs, this ongoing behaviour that constitutes abuse and attack upon our League umpires in particular, will not be condoned. These umpires have the right to perform their duties without fear of being vilified and/or abused.

Take note that our umpiring panel is going to be taking a far more active role in paying free kicks against poor behaviour from coaching boxes and those associated with those boxes, poor player behaviour will certainly lead to free kicks and send offs and reports should that be warranted, they will certainly be actively reporting poor behaviour by spectators, and sanctions against clubs, its officials and players will not be ruled out.

I am writing this so that clubs can become more responsible for the actions of their clubs Officials, coaches, players and spectators. The Board is concerned about the rise in this type of behaviour and is even considering making match day officials for both teams a requirement, not just in finals but across the home and away season.

It is time to take a breath, and lets all take the time to review our own clubs, our officials, our players and our spectators behaviour. A head in the sand approach will not work. It is paramount that each club takes responsibility and calls out poor behaviour wherever it arises.

Be warned the League and its umpires will be acting should the poor behaviour continue.

I ask that all clubs pass this message to all of its committee, coaches, players and spectators in an effort to reduce this rise in poor behaviour. The league is currently looking at signage to post at all grounds to provide further reminders to those who need it.

It is a wonderful game we should all be able to enjoy it, our participation in it and do so without any fear of abuse or attack.

Regards

Sounds like a similar situation a few years ago which Mallala made a bloke sit out for 2 years before he was able to join United. Good to see United took a better approach to the situation

Made it out to Angle Vale today and what an absolute disgrace those involved in the Angle Vale A grade, after the email/notice to clubs about behaviour towards umpires has gone out later in the week they still continue to berate them with abuse (players and supporters) then swear and grizzle even more after a free kick has been paid.

Baylis didn't make it to Lochiel, sick?, so we had Jettner & Serle have to do U14, U17 & Ressies which is not ideal for them

Went away and forgot to tell the boss apparently.

That would've been a fun combination by the time the Ressies started, I wonder how many times Doug told Jettner off?
