Need to make some hard calls going forward from here and work out the direction this team wants to go. Was a botched tournament from us right from the outset and some heads have to roll because of it

And yet we made the semi finals, which 6 teams didn't, and only lost to the pre-tournament favourites, on their home turf.Jim05 wrote:And conversely what a debacle and absolute failure from us.

It's disappointing, but we were not embarrassed.

It's disappointing, but we were not embarrassed. Like India, we saved our worst for the first half an hour of the semi (batting innings).
Considering the national team has been in a nadir over the last twelve months, there's plenty of upside.
Anyway, I'm done with limited overs cricket for another four years.

Do you think Zampa would've been a better option?
Genuine question. As a leg spinner he looks more dangerous, but tends to bleed runs while Lyon's actually been quite economical in his stop-start ODI career.

Actually he only made 11 from his last 3 innings.. so one might suggest form had already dipped.

I tweeted exactly that last night.
Park cricketers all over Australia look at Handscomb and think "Nah mate, that's not going to work" and any bowler who can bend one in a bit looks at him and thinks "I've got one here".
How the **** does he get to that level playing like that? He's the most unconvincing international cricketer I've ever seen. It's an indictment on our whole national system.

Take out Warner & Carey’s efforts over the round robin games and we prob would’ve lost more than we won.
Pick on merit, to suit conditions but not on name.. I would’ve loved to see a genuine swing bowler included like Neser or Worrall.. an aggressive wicket taking leggy like Boyce (Zampa isn’t bad but doesn’t turn it), and love him or hate him Wade deserved a crack - he’s been the best bat in Australia for 18 months.
NCN & Stoinis were yuck selections, Maxwell barely ahead of those two.
