Would be huge change of face from CA, highly doubt they would swallow their pride and do that.

A 600 run Ashes series that we lose in and what can you say? No one else is beating down the door for it and no one else is experienced enough to take the role, Paine only got it by default, he'd have to have been the most least experienced Australian test captain since David Gregory.
Smith can't captain until March 2020. Don't think it is a given that he will get it back either.

Paine already 34 and keepers over 35 sometimes fall off a cliff with their skills. Its why Gilchrist pulled the pin, he felt he was slipping but nobody else had picked up on it yet.

Was that one of the conditions?

Honestly, I spent years teaching younger lads how to captain whilst still playing and coaching in the A's, when push comes to shove, Paine may have the C next to his name but I bet Smith is calling the shots.
Yes was a condition. Warner is banned for life from leadership.

Going by the WC, Finch definitely consulted him.

Think he walks back into that role when Paine is finished.. he's the only clear leader at the moment while the youth develops.

Don't worry, there is probably a UK cricket forum, where Poms are saying the same about their Test team. England have been pretty crappy at Test cricket for a while. I think we are some chance.

Yes compare both countries batting stocks and we look to be far better off, means f**k all when our batsman face Anderson and Broad though.

Hahahaha hope not! I was actually thinking about all our lefties and how England will use Moheen Ali, I suspect he'll definitely be playing as their frontline spinner and they'll be using him alot.

This isn't bad but don't trust Pattinson at all. Paine is crap but a decent skipper. Our top order is a real worry. Warner has been getting stuck on the crease with nowhere to go and being surprised and popping up against unexpected bounce, one occasion even against spin. Harris is a double gully point cut in the air merchant and Khawaja is the least convincing number three I've ever seen. I'd open with Burns and Warner for the left right combo and move Smith to three and play Head at four and Carey or Wade at five.

Harris and Khawaja are crap. We won't pick the inform guys in Wade and Carey so we aren't winning the Ashes. Us getting 280 or more will be rare. All the pressure will be on the bowlers, just like the last few tours,

Would have Hazlewood than Starc with the red ball, don't let his white ball results cloud your judgement on his red ball cricket, he was absolutely crap in Aus tests last season.

Warner
Burns
Smith
Patterson
Head
Handscomb
Stoinis
Paine
Cummins
Hazlewood
Lyon
Dave Warner will be missed!

Handscomb is a joke and Stoinis is nearly as bad. We don't have a decent all rounder so okay the extra batsman.

There's merit in what you say about Starc, but you lost me at Handscomb.

Just looking at Khawaja's career. Average 42 but against the three better sides throughout his career he struggles

England averages 33
India average 28
South Africa averages 34

Averages 25 away from Australia.

Only averages 38 as a number 3 batsmen

On a used dry wicket.....taking 3 wickets in a day probably wasn't the plan for the home side!

And given our girls only need to draw this match to retain the ashes, you'd think we'd be happy to bat and bat and bat. England are the ones who need the game moving forward, not us.
